Where does Anti-Christ fall into? Is it an horror movie? Is it suspense? I am having a hard time figuring out what it's about and where it stands? I am wondering if I should bother adding it to my ZIP list

Yes that is Antichrist; I was "lucky" enough to see it at IFC Center in NYC. Note that "morning viewing" does not imply that this will show up in Criterion's oeuvre; the film was shot at 25fps, so LvT would have to approve a 24fps version for NA BD machines...

Looks like a done deal to me.

Criterion has a 12 picture deal with IFC. Not surprised they allegedly chose this one.

Antichrist was not really my sort of film. I thought the beginning and end, slow black and white, was really great. But then also scenes that were just outright, hey look this was shot on digital, didnt do it for me. Particularily
[Show spoiler]when they are argueing in the bedroom and have sex
. And I think that LVT just put stuff in the movie to get a reaction to it so more people would see it.

If the collection gets another LVT movie I would rather it be The Idiots, not this.

I call it a film about "f'd up people". Not a film I plan to have in my collection but I think for those who enjoyed films like "Salo", "Fat Girl", "Sweet Movie", you'll dig "Anti-Christ".

I see thanks, I did not enjoy Salo so I think I will skip Anti-Christ then.

I cant really disagree with this point. I went to see it when it was playing at the New York Film Festival last October and there was a Q&A with Willem Dafoe after the film was over. A few of people in the audience were asking him why certain scenes were in the movie and he couldnt answer them. So either there was no particualar reason for these scenes or LVT just aint telling

That said, I still found the movie fascinating as a character study of sorts. But, apparently, im in the minority. It's definately one of those "Love it or Loathe it" type of films.

There are people that actually ENJOYED salo and Sweet Movie!? Lock them up! haha just kidding. I don't think anyone can "Enjoy" any of the above mentioned movies. I think you just have to have an appreciation for what the director was attempting to do/say with the film.

For the record, I can appreciate Salo for what it is..... Sweet movie, on the other hand, I hated.

I actualy believe Salo would have been a different thing for me if I had been aware of it back in my 20's in college when I was a very different person and much more open minded about certain things. I have change a lot in the last 20 years in characters, as everyone does of course. I have notice that I have become much more conservative in my thinking about dealing with certain things It's a bit scary when you realize you starting to sound more and more like your dad At this point I think Anti-Christ would just not be a movie made for me.

Yea, Im 21 so i definately see where you're coming from. It certainly takes an open mind to be able to even get through a film like that, let alone like it. I wouldnt recommend Antichrist as a blind buy but I would recommend it as a rental first. You never know. (I will say this..... Its certainly not AS graphic as a film like Salo - with the exception of maybe 15 minutes or so)

Only ten days until the July releases will be known ... the recent hints at The Thin Red Line and Antichrist in 2010 (in addition to the rest) are very exciting! Criterion continues its excellence.

I might add it up to my ZIP list at one point, just out of curiosity.

Yep, that'd be me. My first Criterion purchase on DVD was the original "Salo" DVD when it was first released back in 199-whatever. I love that stuff!

I'm 32 now, and when you've grown up watching and listening to GG Allin videos & music, the artificial stuff just doesn't cut it. Plus, all the early years of watching John Waters early films like "Multiple Maniacs," "Mondo Trasho," "Desperate Living," and "Pink Flamingos" helped me develop into the fine, upstanding citizen that I am today.

Yeah...the last arc of the film is a bit too much. But for those who like to be surprised, especially when it comes to sex and also when it comes to mutilation. Where "In the Realm of the Senses" approaches sex with the severity of having too much. "Antichrist" is a film that will definitely make you think, especially from the female's perspective especially her thoughts towards men.

If anything....this movie will make you or Hehe...

Oh, and guys, don't watch this movie with a woman you plan to break up with.

I've looked through the official review on this site as well as the user reviews and found no one with a similar problem. Perhaps I got a bad disc, but I thought I would ask here before sending it back to Amazon.

I've not watched the blu-ray, but can I hazard a guess that you are watching it on a Sony SXRD TV? (If so, good chance its optical block is going bad.)

More noticeable with b&w films, as color tends to hide the discoloration. (Sony has a warranty extension for (some of) these sets that expires end of June, you may want to watch some other b&w films to see if this tint is present on them (in the same upper right corner location), when background (e.g., sky) is light gray or white).

Yeah, years ago when it was released. It was quite tame, I thought. The best part for me was when Nicolas Cage's character when into the guy's room and there was little self-made "shrine" to the band Danzig.

I guess I just grew up being too desensitized early on from having an older brother's influence and listening to bands like The Exploited, Sex Pistols, and Dead Kennedys, etc. from the 4th grade and on, ya know? I would think that kids today grow up even more desensitized, no? I probably can't hold a candle to the whipper-snappers of today's world.

Just watched Days of Heaven - WOW. I was expecting not to like it based on a lot of comments here and elsewhere, but I was enthralled. The visuals obviously, but the score was incredible too! And the narration by the little girl was poignant in a naive kind of way, and a little heartbreaking. I think I can finally say I like a movie starring Richard Gere!

Are you saying "American Gigolo" doesn't do it for you, neo? Or, maybe you haven't seen it, yet?
