Would you guys buy 'M' from the Criterion Collection or rather the British edition from Masters of Cinema?

I'd say Criterion edition, more supplements.

I remember pages and pages of discussion about that but to be honest I can't even remember what the bullet points were.

I can say people don't pop up to say 'wait, no, the MoC is better' whenever M comes up so at worst it was probably a draw.

I have both and I would splurge for both of them if I didn't already have them. Both are GREAT classics. Ive been tempted to even get the other blu ray release of M for more footage

Well, maybe not 'all sorts' of useful information. Maybe just the occasional bit of useful information.

Or just this one, maybe.

Yeah, that's probably closer.
All I ever see there are questions about coupons, rants about coupons, and people that normally wouldn't care about Criterion titles posting about the big haul they just bought because they could get them for $10 each.

I just received Shoah. I love the package (surprisingly in great condition despite this being B&N), looks great and hope to start it soon.

It's on the internet, so it must be true.

edit: But it will be an epic fail if it's not the theatrical cut.

The Hidden Fortress upgrade? Lucas said it was a big influence on Star Wars.

I want Elephant Man on BD from these guys.

In my opinion, though, The Island is a far better movie. The Clonus Horror is a fun flick, but it's unintentionally laughable with the styles and the general approach. When The Clonus Horror was featured on Mystery Science Theater, the robots had no shortage of comedic ammunition.

Agreed. That's a great sequence. This is the scene that got my hopes up for Bay's Transformers, but my hopes were ultimately splattered on the ground like an ice cream cone falling out of a clumsy child's hands. Such a shame.
I agree The Island was a lot of fun and i enjoyed it, my fave bay movie besides Rock and i agree Clonus was quite cheesy as it made good MST3K fodder.

Did someone mentioned Scanners and Brood coming this fall? if so then i hope it's in time for Halloween as i just sold my old DVDs.

I still haven't seen my Hidden Fortress DVD! Ill still take the upgrade though.

As for the Blade Runner influences in Pacific Rim, one just has to see the movie. Seriously, Pacific Rim production stills could almost pass of as Blade Runner's (a film Guillermo del Toro said changed his life). It's not a damning observation at all, as it's very nicely done.

What does everyone think of The Magician? I own all the other Bergman Criterion blus and I was wondering how you guys think that one stacks up.

It's awful on whole, but good up until the end.
[Show spoiler]The guy is thoroughly shown to be a fraud and no-count, but magically transcends his fate when he is called to give a performance at the royal court. It could be the story of Bergman's "success."

add: I may buy the Blu-ray someday.

Don't forget the German disc that uses the new restoration. The package is relativity English friendly, but not everything.

For the movie proper, the German is the way to go, in my opinion.
[Show spoiler](I have the German and CC versions)

I agree. I have both the CC and Universum release and I was blown away by the German copy. You can't tell from the screen shots but in-motion it has a completely different feel. The film's shaky motion on static images has been reduced, as well as inconsistent contrast. The audio is the true reason for the upgrade. Having the ability to hear it as intended in complete silence during key scenes makes the impact of the film far greater.

As stated, a very English friendly release except for the special features on the DVD which would require a region-free player. The packaging is masterful.
