This would make my year, Blu-ray wise.

This was one of the titles that I was considering during the Great Barnes & Noble Sweep of Early July 2013.

In fact, I still have not ruled it out yet, since the sale is now extended to another payday.

Here's my quick review of Pacific Rim, for anyone interested.

(This is Criterion-related, since we now have Guillermo del Toro in the Collection.)

I just bought it three days ago on Criterion.

I loved the Criterion DVD, so it's a spot-on guarantee that I will love the Blu-ray upgrade.

Also, I don't see any reason why Criterion would box up films like Scanners or any of the Lynch films. They seem like big sellers by themselves but would restrict sales if boxed. But then again I didn't think they would box up Easy Rider or The Last Picture Show, so who knows. and if the Antonioni trilogy is released it won't be for awhile. The new 35mm restoration of L'avventura just started touring. The earliest I could see it coming out is December. and I'd have to pass on a Hidden Fortress upgrade. Bleh.

The Great Owl projects his deepest desires and most enthusiastic dreams on to his predictions for the October Criterion Announcements...

Le Samouraï (upgrade)
I Married a Witch
Eyes without a Face (upgrade)
David Cronenberg box set (The Brood, Scanners, etc.)
The Vanishing (upgrade)
Touchez Pas Au Grisbi (upgrade)
Michelangelo Antonioni box set (L'Avventura, La Notte, L'Eclisse)
Ulee's Gold (the official "This came out of nowhere, but it's an awesome movie!" release of the month)

Agree about the opportunity that's missed with box sets. I'll buy elsewhere if that happens.

Hidden Fortress bleh? No where else can you see Byrnham Wood move to Dunsinane.

I should give Bad Timing a second chance. I saw it on DVD, and it did not register with me all that much. I was disappointed, because I am a massive enthusiast of his other films.

Are you thinking of Throne of Blood? In which case I would definitely pick that up. Throne of Blood is one of the few Kurosawa's I've enjoyed (I have a few left to watch though).

Friends of Eddie Coyle, son.

Just kidding, that would be putting my hopes a little too high.

Anything from the Davids would be awesome though!

Was there any word about Criterion possibly releasing The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance? I'm in that John Ford state of mind after revisiting Stagecoach this week.

It could be. Am thinking of the one derived from "MacBeth." That's the Shakespeare with Byrnham Wood and Dunsinane.

I have heard that rumored recently and it is a Paramount title (I think) so I suppose it's a possibility. I would love a Criterion release of that.

Yep. That's Throne of Blood. Hidden Fortress is Proto-Star Wars.
