The things that I put myself through to be a more knowledgeable enthusiast of cinema...
[Show spoiler] It's not always easy, but watching the previously undiscovered movies in the Criterion Collection is ultimately good for me in the end. |

My roommate picked up the Criterion DVD version of Life Aquatic while I was purchasing my Blu-Ray haul for the sale (he's aware of the CC, but isn't into it like myself and some of my other friends).
I'm a big Wes Anderson fan, I don't think he's made a bad film and his work is worthy of inclusion in the collection (something I know not everyone here agrees with), but I forgot how laugh our loud funny The Life Aquatic is. I'm surprised it's taken so long for Criterion to announce an upgrade. This is the release schedule for his previous films: Bottle Rocket - Dec 16, 2008 The Darjeeling Limited - Oct 12, 2010 Rushmore - Nov 22, 2011 The Royal Tenenbaums - Aug 14, 2012 So on average we've gotten one Wes Anderson movie every year in the fall time for the past 4 or 5 years. So the earliest we could probably expect is end of 2013? Or maybe Criterion is waiting until they wanna release some more obscure films. Wes Anderson's films seem to be used primarily to help bolster sales for Criterion. And since the past year alone has seen the release/re-release of noteworthy films by famous directors (Terry Gilliam's Brazil, Christopher Nolan's Following, Elia Kazan's On the Waterfront, Michael Cimino's Heaven's Gate, etc., Delmer Daves's 3:10 to Yuma, and Anderon's own Royal Tenenbaums), maybe they're just holding off. Of course this is all speculation on my part. Either way, I'll be very excited for that announcement. |

I still haven't watched The Phantom Carriage, but Paris, Texas is one of the best films in the collection and is highly recommended.
