True.

I would think they got all the MGM titles at the same time as Fugitive Kind, so we should see them trickling out from time to time from now on.

LOL that's ironic, since Malick added the narration after he cut a lot of the dialogue since he was unhappy with Gere's and Adams' performances.

New Yorker, like Kino, were a double-edged sword for DVDs. They usually had the only R1 edition out, but they were pretty incompetent about transfers, and they often used PAL converted materials for European titles. Also, their pricing was outrageous--Criterion level without the usual abundance of extras and wonderful transfer.

The only exception I can think of is the Edvard Munch SE, which was done by someone else for N'Yer (NTSC) and MoC/Eureka! (PAL). That transfer was great considering the nature of the film elements.

The saving grace is that Kino has stepped up to the plate for HD, creating some great BD releases, so hopefully, this will encourage N'Yer to render things properly.

Oh, I completely agree with ya. I wish Criterion could gather up all the old Anchor Bay titles that were released so long ago.

That is actually a good point. Fugitive Kind just came out as a surprise (so soon), but also a dvd only release. So if Night of the Hunter (which has a HD transfer) will be on blu, it could take a couple of months. But the MGM thing you pointed out could/should have some more releases coming soon.

Well looks like Greenway has been officailly taken off that list. Shame, I was hoping for some Zed and Two Noughts.

Maybe...THE OFFENCE?!?! (NOT ON A DVD-R)

EDIT: Check this eBay listing out. Spot the three titles this seller is listing as OOP that are still in print.

I'd love the obvious choices Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre... although I hold a special place for Cobra Verde and Heart of Glass.

I wonder if they can have someone shoot him?

Well MGM are supposedly finally releasing it as Burn-On-Demand DVD-R (part of the "Limited Edition Collection" on Amazon.com, so maybe they let Criterion pick it up with TFK to finally do it justice? They obviously don't care as it's never been released on DVD in R1.

Thanks for the info. Another Lumet/Connery film they can do is The Anderson Tapes.

Sony released The Anderson Tapes in Sep '08, so I doubt it.

Only one IFC in my predictions, and these are all titles heavily rumored to be released soon, although Criterion usually has a surprise title every month.

Not trying to get my hopes up, but I really hope we see "The Thin Red Line before the end of the summer. I know that CC has a deal with 20th Century Fox right now, a couple of their movies have found their way onto CC's list. The first was "Bigger Than Life" and now we're waiting for "The Thin Red Line". It just seems that these major studio catalog titles are a big deal and they wouldn't just announce one without any pre-marketing, like with the "thin red lion" sketch. I'm not sure if they ever released any clue sketches for "Bigger Than Life" or "Days of Heaven" in their newsletters?

Z00 seems a bit unlikely only because it was just rereleased a couple of years ago. They should pick up and OOP title like The Thief etc.

Well, if its any consolation, Zeitgeist films has pretty excellent editions of A Zed And Two Noughts, The Draughtsman's Contract, as well as a box set of some of Greenaway's Early Films, including The Falls. I would however like to see A Cook.... as I never did get that now OOP dvd, and all I have is a divx rip of it.
