I like it quite a bit and own it. LOTS of dancing and a lively and beautiful take on Orpheus.

Same here. There's no stopping me. 12 Criterion BDs and counting here.

Doing it all in segments of 4.

It's a wonderful film. The two leads are perfect, the colors are beautiful, and the music is terrific. Can you tell I like it?

Today's $57 haul from Barnes & Noble...

Lord of the Flies
Monsieur Verdoux
La Jetée / Sans Soleil

I had the first two Blu-rays on the reserve shelf, and bought the La Jetée / Sans Soleil Blu-ray during a Self Control Fail moment. Funny how that tends to happen sometimes during the 50% off sales.

Actually, I sold my old DVD of La Jetée / Sans Soleil a few months back in anticipation of upgrading to Blu-ray, so it was just a matter of time anyway. I've been dying to see how Sans Soleil looks on Blu-ray. The supplement about David Bowie's "Jump They Say" video is ace.

Olive Films has really been knocking some home runs over the fence lately. High Noon and Invasion of the Body Snatchers are two favorites in my collection, but I was recently taken by surprise with the awesome French adventure, Greed in the Sun (starring Jean Paul Belmondo and Lino Ventura) that will probably end up being one of the most frequently revisited Blu-rays that I own. I'm looking forward to delving into three recent Olive Films purchases, The Quiet Man, The Enforcer, and Sands of the Kalahari.

Olive Films Blu-rays tend to be short on the supplements side, and Criterion has the clear win in that regard. As far as the films themselves, though, Olive has just as many killer choices.
I have High Noon, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Quiet Man. Olive has done a great job with them, even if we can all agree Criterion would have done even better. The problem I have with Olive is they don't have as many "essential" buys as, say, Criterion AND (and this is a big one) they often release completely bare bones titles. Not a dealbreaker to many, but it is for me...especially when they always charge the same price for a title whether they bothered with extras or not. That's why I'm upset that I Married a Witch & The Uninvited both only have one real extra yet are priced at $39.95.

Here's the movies I bought in the last month. Yep, I'm definitely on a Japanese kick right now. Just love those movies. 12 Angry Men is by far my favorite movie ever. Everything works with that movie. Superb acting, atmosphere that oozes 1950's and amazing directing.

What movies are going to be apart of the Cronenberg boxset and when is that going to be announced/released?

Definitely check it out if you get the chance. Some warnings: Don't go into thinking it'll be a straight adaptation. It's not even close. and it can be pretty obfuscating in his typical post 70s style. He's created a cinematic language of his own and it's hard to enjoy them if you don't put the effort into "learning the language", I guess.

But I'm a huge fan of his post 70s work so I don't know how reliable my recommendation can be. I'd give King Lear a 9/10 and the same for Nouvelle vague, Detective, Prénom Carmen, 'Je vous salue, Marie' and Soigne ta droite and a 10/10 for Hélas pour moi and Allemagne 90 neuf zéro. Oh and of course, Histoire(s) du cinema, Éloge de l'amour and Film socialisme are all great as well. For Ever Mozart is the only non-great film of his from 1983 on. It seems that Criterion doesn't have much interest in releasing any of his post-60s work (or has access to them. Several of those titles are Studio Canal).

That was quite a process, but it's good to have it set up on that website.

Could I possibly get some of your opinions on Les Cousins? I saw it in-store and it intrigued me, but I'd still really appreciate some input either for or against picking it up!

I was messing with mine the other night, going through old Amazon, eBay, B&N orders and adding them by the date I ordered. I only keep tabs on the blu side, I only have 12 Criterion dvds left.

I'm still waiting for Life of Oharu through to Richard III to arrive, they should start to appear next week.

I prefer Le Beau Serge to Les Cousins to be honest. It's a much better film. IMO

Definitely need more Ozu in blu! Been watching alot of his films on hulu and enjoying most of them. I like Kurosawa's directing the best but Ozu is good as is Mizoguchi.
