Fritz Lang's M is regarded as a timeless masterpiece right now, but, at the time of its release, it was largely regarded as an opportunistic throwaway movie in light of a famous serial killer trial that had just happened in the news. (Probably similar to what people would think of a movie about the Boston Marathon bomber were to be released in theaters this weekend.)

Not last night. I only watched the movie before calling it a night. I watched Chabrol's short a couple years back when I had the 2-disc DVD edition of the movie, though. I don't remember a lot, except that it is an interesting homage that condenses the story while keeping the vibe intact.

I need to go through all of the extras again. The documentary that discusses the restoration is pretty good.

Chabrol's short and his interview were the only two supplements I watched the entirety of. I started the conversation and the restoration bit, but then I went out to see The Conjuring.

Now that you mention it, that would make a great double feature. I imported the UK disc back a few months ago and it is stunning, both the film itself and the presentation. It just opened this week here in Toronto, so I may go see it on the big screen as well.
