Watched, and then watched 3 reasons on the side.

3 reasons made me want 3:10 to Yuma, and especially 3 women.

I found the Bill Hader one to be the most enjoyable because he cracks a few funny jokes, but for the most part I would agree. I watched the Refn one today and it just made me uncomfortable. Is the person who goes in there talking to us or the person holding the camera? Is the person buying those movies or just taking them (if the latter, why? Most of them are pretty successful), and finally are we supposed to see what they like because if so I would prefer they just stick to the Top 10 so we can get a more planned report of why they chose each film. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that hates those videos though.

Default OT: Only God Forgives

OT: I'm asking here b/c I know I'll get a quick response from my fellow members..
Only God Forgives is playing over 2 1/2 hours away, so whats the best option for PQ? Comcast onDemand or Vudu through Xbox? If these aren't the best options, what is? Both HDMI connected, but for some reason when I rented To The Wonder through Comcast, the picture sucked. Please help if you can, if not, just ignore this non-Criterion message. Thanks..

Here's a Criterion related question:
Anatomy of a Murder running time is around 160 minutes or so. This is the same or very close to Saving Private Ryan which in itself seems pretty long. My question is: As a courtroom drama that is the same length as an action/war movie, does Anatomy feel like it's actual length or does it seem to move rather quickly?
I have patience for long movies. Most of the ones I watch are around this length of time anyways, just wondering if it drags or not. Thanks for your input.

It goes by very quickly, in my opinion. It has enough tension to keep it moving and it really draws you in. I watched it earlier this week and it didn't feel long at all. Of course, I also watched the almost five and a half hour Fanny and Alexander this week and didn't think that felt long, so maybe it is just me

Great! Glad to hear, thank you for such a quick response.. The wife is leaving for a week trip, so I get all my movies that aren't in the compromise pile to watch, haha.

It went by pretty quickly, in my opinion. There were a couple spots where you were waiting for the scene to change, but overall it's great.

That's funny. One of the reasons I watched those two movies this week is my wife has been out of town. She has a hard time watching long movies--she tends to fall asleep

thanks iScottie.. excited to watch this weekend. I also have Sansho, Yojimbo, and Seven Samurai for the weekend. All a 'little' different from Anatomy, but trying to knock out some still sealed Criterions.

I really should be doing that too, but instead I've resorted to watching 2013 films On Demand to see if I want to buy them or not.

I should really start watching my Blu-rays again, especially since I'm not buying as many anymore and I'll be able to go through them at an easier pace.

^I'll second Scottie's recco. Anatomy... doesn't feel at all like a long movie. It's comfortably gripping all the way.

I'd love to see Criterion include some of their September and October titles in their 101 Films of Summer on Hulu. I think it would be a wise choice to help sway people who might be on the fence about a film.

There's not a single lemon in that Val Lewton box set. I Walked with a Zombie and The Seventh Victim are my faves, but all of the movies are ace.
I really wish that these films would hit Blu-ray.

Yes, I'm loving your avatar as well. Great choice.

For now, I'm stoked about the release of the original 1958 version of The Fly.

I'm so glad that I decided to revisit Sans Soleil tonight, after revisiting M last night.

The claustrophobic borderline-misanthropic M always makes me want to stay inside, hide under my bed, and avoid participating in the potential horrors of everyday street life.
Sans Soleil is not exactly a happy movie, but there is an exuberant joy to the collage of images that makes me want to get out there into the world, immerse myself on the diversity of crowds, and have adventures. Revolutionary demonstrations, burning plastic dolls, cat memorials, and all.

I'll write more later on both the Chris Marker films. Enjoying some extras now.

Revisited M just the other week really late curled up in the dark. Such an incredible movie! There are even some dry comedic parts which is really unique for the type of subject matter it deals with (Franz being left behind and being caught as he crawls back up through the hole in the floor). Love the intercuts between the cops and mobsters as they're planning ways to track down the murderer. I think since presently we have more access of information and media attention to these sort of disgusting crimes that this film resonates even more and stands the test of time, not just for its ideas, but even camera techniques.

Agreed on all accounts.

The M restoration release is one of the crowning jewels of the Criterion Collection for so many reasons. I loved revisiting the film last night (and seeing it in high definition for the first time), but I'm definitely glad that I'm chasing it down with Sans Soleil.

Well, yes. I just pointed out that the Bill Hader one was atleast somewhat entertaining, then went on to say what I found confusing, and finally stated that I hate them. I'll try to be more clear in the future, but if it isn't up to par with your standards please avert your eyes as I would hate to harm your poor retinas with my sloppy words.

It's just odd to hate a video that is basically some person just talking about some favorite criterion release of theirs. It's not like a jersey shore episode you know.
