I suppose you are correct there. I don't use the word "hate" sparingly. I mean dislike when I say it and if you didn't mean any harsh feelings with your comment then I apologize for mine.

I really wish that these films would hit Blu-ray.

Yes, I'm loving your avatar as well. Great choice.

For now, I'm stoked about the release of the original 1958 version of The Fly.
I suppose the ball's in Warner's court with the Lewton set but would love for Criterion to get their hands on it. I own both the LD and DVD sets and would get the Blu in a heartbeat. Like you said "No Lemons."My favorite is I Walked With a Zombie since that Cane field sequence was burned into my memory from a early childhood viewing.

HAHA, I watched a little bit of it first. This one could really go either way for me, so we'll see. I told my fiancé to pick between than and Kuroneko, and he picked that, so I'll blame it all on him anyway, lol.

Just watched "Band of Outsiders" earlier today and my God, if only I were as cool as that dance sequence.

Just got my Package from the Barnes & Noble sale, and noticed that Walkabout has a playback problem on my ps3, seems to be the exact same issue reported on the news here back in 2010, i thought this issue should be completely eradicated by now i guess i will be emailing Jon Mulvaney.

Are there any other disc with this kind of playback problems? I haven't completely checked all my Criterions.

The only other issue i know is the Three Colors:White about the audio issue.

I know everyone's on the Barnes and Noble sale right now, but I couldn't help but notice that "Safety Last!" on Amazon is almost $40. I didn't know it was that popular. I was curious about it.

I noticed a bunch of Les Blank films up on Hulu, and Kim from Criterion mentioned at last fall's Wexner talk that they did have a lot of cool documentaries in store for release in 2013, so maybe there is a Les Blank Eclipse set or some Blu releases imminent.
Saw a few Les Blank documentaries in the early 80s, the talk about what's up on Hulu has me hoping for some discs. Well a lot of discs of Hulu stuff would make me happy.

If this is a request for recommendations, then asking politely like everyone else is much appreciated.

If this is an observation, then here is another: get off your foul-mouthed azz and go buy some. You will find many worth owning.

There's no better time to start than now, with B&N's 50% off sale going on. Just in the past two weeks, my Criterion collection has grown from 8 to 34.

Granted, such a large jump wreaks havoc on the funds, but being able to purchase Criterion titles for the same price as any "regular" new release is too good to pass up.

I watched Days of Heaven yesterday. At first I thought I was going to struggle to empathise with the characters, but two thirds of the way through I was on the edge of my seat. I like the way that you see the characters from a distance, as part of the landscape, and gradually get closer.

I know it's a totally redundant thing to say but it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. It reminded me of Thomas Hardy's Tess (which uses the same image of animals in a field that's being harvested) and Kubrick's "pure cinema", only with more heart. I could probably have enjoyed it without any empathy for the characters because, to borrow a Lynchian analogy, it's like a moving painting. The Edward Hopper inspired house is genius.

I think Days of Heaven has my favourite Criterion artwork - the cover, the disc, the hefty booklet. I started listening to the interviews but as soon as Richard Gere trotted out the old thespian chestnut about being happy working in theatre and not wanting to make films, I had to turn it off.

Random observation: just re-watched the trailer to Juliet of The Spirits and noticed it has the exact same stock owl sound-effect you here in nearly all of Jean Rollin's films. I'm sure it's a coincidence, but still makes me wonder if Rollin remembered the trailer, or there was some remote connection.
PS, I saw this brought up earlier, but though it's great to have a Criterion thread, it's so damn large, unless you check in every day. I haven't checked thoroughly, but I feel like many of the Criterion films (or at least their directors) deserve their own thread.

I'm sure Lynch wasn't the first to make that analogy. It seems like a natural observation with a number of films. I know I often made that analogy myself without knowing about others who probably made it before me. Maybe since my background is in painting . hope i don't come accross as smug, just didn't think you need to credit Lynch for that, though I like his flicks a lot.
EDIT: Wow, I made two posts here a whole 15 minutes apart, on no new posts in between!?
