I'm still burning through Criterions on Hulu Plus and hopefully from viewings I can swing up to B&N this week and pick up a few more. Recenlty watched Shock Corridor and loved it. My last haul included

- Kiss Me Deadly
- Repo Man
- The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.

One more question: I've heard alot about Goddard and wanted to start to get into his films and started with Breathless. While the dialogue was good, I was kinda bored by it. What would be another good Goddard flick to try? Thanks!
Go for Band Of Outsiders, its what got me into Godard after also being disappointed with Breathless (which has grown on me since)

Belle de Jour and Kiss Me Deadly!

As far as the Godard, I've only seen Band of Outsiders and Vivre Sa Vie and enjoyed both. Everyone says to start with Breathless, though.

Oh, and in regards to the upgrades if you only have the first release of Tokyo Drifter then definitely upgrade it cause the blu is stunning!
Kiss Me Deadly and Salo also look great.

I know right! I didn't know what to expect and left like, eh. And I forgot to mention I did see Vivre Sa Vie as well and felt like that a good film. The ending was really dark. But yeah Band of Outsiders looks like it'll be next.

Awesome. Yeah I do actually have the 1st edition of Tokyo Drifter and really like that flick so I'll end up upgrading down the road here.

Pierrot Le Fou or Band of Outsiders. Pierrot Le Fou is OoP thou so go with Band of Outsiders. Whatever you do, stay away from WeekEnd.

Haha see Weekend was one I watched the trailer for and was like, "that looks pretty interesting." So who knows!

I thought Breathless was just OK on first viewing but now I am getting obsessed in getting it on blu ray plus Vivre sa Vie and Band of Outsiders. Not good with my dwindling bank acct.

If there was an AA for Criterion, I'd so join it. . It's just so easy to be sucked in collecting Criterions. LOL!

Just discovered the site, so i haven't really dug through their work yet. Arent Scott Tobias and several other ex-AV CLUB critics on board too?

I own four Godard Blu-rays. Breathless, Vivre Sa Vie, Band of Outsiders, and Pierrot Le Fou. For me, these are near-flawless Godard films that pushed the creative envelope without dropping totally over the edge. I've seen Weekend, and I think that it's a fascinating title, but it's also one of the later 1960s Godard works that are considerably less accessible and fun.

I'll take the early 1960s Godard any day of the week.

I just finished watching Bigger Than Life, and thoroughly enjoyed it as much as someone can "enjoy" such a film. It's a great companion piece to Nicholas Ray's Rebel Without a Cause. This is not quite on the level of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, which I saw last night, but it's a strong Criterion title for sure.

I have a lot more to say about Bigger Than Life, but I'll post tomorrow when I've slept on it.

I'll take 2 or 3 Things I know about her and Weekend over those early sixties films

I wrote about WEEKend in an advanced film seminar class while at my old university. It was a 15 page essay or something along those lines. The only thing I like about that Godard film is that it vaguely fits the post-apocalyptic genre which I so very much like. The breakdown of society is an intriguing concept to me.
