Thanks, I decided to have a look at it and I also added on my ZIP list Dillinger Is Dead as well base on the things I saw on here. Not sure when I will get them but I will post back after seeing them.

Make sure you got the 135-minute of Killing of a Chinese Bookie and not the 108-minute cut. The Criterion had both on 2 discs.

Thanks, I will read the description on ZIP to see which is which before adding it to my list

So I just check, it's the 135 minutes version for Criterion. They have on ZIP a none Criterion release form 1978 at 109 minutes. I added to my list the Criterion version.

Thanks again

Let's not take this over board fellas and start a debate over one small comment. I'm not trying to be a mod here, but this board is meant for people with opinions and discussion about Criterion movies. It may have started out that way, but now it's delved into something entirely unnecessary and way above what is appropriate for a blu-ray.com forum thread. There is a line between discussing if there were "socialist" influences in a Godard film(s) and arguing about two conflicting ideals.

Thank you
Thanks, it was getting into a realm where I was starting to get peeved.

No prob.
The difference of length gives 2 different feels to the story. The first, longer release is always the best.

I am hard at work on my bluray collection and wanted to start adding Criterion discs. I was thinking of starting with Benjamin Button because the reviews were so stellar. Are there any you recommend highly?

If you are interested in getting into some of Criterions releases, I strongly suggest starting with any title other than "Bejamin Button," which was a partnership release with Paramount. I don't believe that "Benjamin Button" is gonna give you the true effect of a quality Criterion release. I would start with something foreign like "The Wages Of Fear" or "The Seventh Seal." Those are both solid releases. If you prefer the English language, I'd rather have you choose "Paris, Texas" or "Bigger Than Life."

And that argument ended more than 2 pages ago. Thanks for needlessly beating a dead horse.

Thank you for the suggestion. I loved Cries and Whispers but never saw Seventh Seal. I also have never seen Paris, Texas but loved Wings of Desire.

I watched Paris, Texas a couple months ago for the first time and it's fantastic. One of the better movies I've ever seen. I'd highly recommend seeing it.

1. hmm, I am not quite sure which I bought first, but it was either Seven Samurai or The Royal Tenenbaums.
2. The Royal Tenenbaums, but I really liked the last two I've seen, Days of Heaven and Bigger than Life.

1. Brakhage Vol 1. I bought it for research, and didn't know who Criterion were at the time. It is still my only one.

2. Now it has dawned on me what is going on at Criterion I am certainly going to be throwing a lot of money their way. I have already ordered and paid for a copy of Ran, rather than getting the subpar BD. Not yet arrived though but let's say that's my favourite for now.

I have about 10 others in my Amazon cart, both films I haven't seen or only on TV years ago, and ones I own on DVD already but want a better transfer of (i.e. Solaris). And I am planning to pick up a Region A BD player in NYC when I am there in a few weeks, so that I can get their BDs. (Otherwise I have a Region B only BD player.)

Thanks guys for taking away a part of my income.

Just finished watching the Devils, Martyrs, Salo, and Antichrist.

I'm curious how Antichrist will look progressive as compared to the interlaced FR Blu.

I wish Warner would put the Devils out in a restored, remastered version in their digibook format, since they probably wouldn't license it to Criterion. The eurocult DVD I recieved from HK Flix looks like a worn out VHS tape.

ok, I can only buy one of these two right now. Which would you pick:

8 1/2 or The Seventh Seal?
