Yeah the thing about Antichrist is that it was apparently shot at 25 fps, so the upcoming criterion blu will inevitably be 1080p/24 and thereby not true to the source, yet will no doubt be approved by LvT anyway and sport the sticker accordingly...I mean, right? But for serious, interested to see how this is handled. Silly LvT, shooting 25 fps to begin with...

Seventh Seal

I own both. Havnt had a chance to watch 8 1/2 yet but The Seventh Seal is one of my favorite movies of all time so i'll have to go with that one

I should warn you though that I'm sort of an Ingmar Bergman groupie so..... I don't know if that invalidates my recommendation

I am not a Bergman "groupie" but I would still go with Seventh Seal. It's a good movie. 8 1/2 is good as well. I don't know if your starting out with Criterion, but I just thought Seventh Seal is the easier one to recommend out of those 2.

P.S., people don't bash me because I'm not a Bergman "groupie", because I watch and own his films, just not a big fan.

I've been waiting for a North American release of Antichrist since the movie came out in theaters. So I am EXTREMELY happy that Criterion got this film.

Wow, am I the only one to recommend 8 1/2 over Seventh Seal?
Although, you really can't go wrong.

Man, I hope I can keep up with the story, seeing how there's a frame missing every second?

Actually I'm also curious to know how Criterion deals with the 25 fps.

Just made a trip to Best Buy to see if they broke street date on My Life to Live (they didn't) and noticed a tag of $42.99 for Monsoon Weeding BR. I didn't check to see if the cashiers were wearing ski masks and armed with knives.

Most places have it at $38 here in Canada, it's way to expensive

Hey! I went and do a bit of reading on this movie (I do that a lot) and there was something in what I was reading that Ben Gazara did not like the longer version of 135 minutes and manage to convice John Cassavetes to change the movie, that seem strange to me, an actor convincing a director to alter his movie is such a drastic way. It seem Gazara told this story sometimes in 2008, wonder if it's actualy true or not?

I've never bought a single Criterion from Best Buy. Their prices are always a ripoff for Criterion BluRay.

Family Video for $25.99. Family Video sells almost all single disc Blu-Ray Criterions for $25.99. I think shipping is a flat $1.99.

1. Don't remember for sure, but probably The Lady Vanishes, Wages of Fear, or Insomnia. (edit: on dvd)

2. I Know Where I'm Going!, without a doubt

Well their relationship was different from other actor/directors. The had a good friendship so I'm not surprised by that. Even though Ben Gazzara is the f'n man, the longer version was the true Cassavetes' version. The longer 1976 version was never shown since 1978 until Criterion released it on this dvd. The shorter one was the one that has been in general release since 1978.
