They do ship replacement cases & artwork internationally. It's just discs they won't ship.

I got 400 Blows, Last Metro & Chungking cases shipped to England last year.

E-mail orders@criterion.com and ask how much shipping is to Germany for the case you want and Claire will give you a total then you send payment via paypal with a note saying it's for the Last Emperor case.

I think it took 2 week to arrive for me.

Yeah, I'm aware of the longstanding Criterion baggage VS anime baggage thing. What makes the legacies of Japanese animation different than French animation? The fans, for better and for worse.

Ha, indeed. I personally always get a kick out of reasonable conjecture in this thread. But at the end of the day, I also totally get how we're not in the Criterion acquisition meetings, so what do we know?

great hauls - lots of good stuff there - I've also just recently gotten Shoah and am trying to find the time to watch it all the way through. I saw it before several years ago, but this new package and presentation looks awesome.

shipping was $6.25 or $6.75 defiantly wasn't anymore than $7. So it'll be about $12 total.

Only a few for me, I should have picked up a few more that I wanted but the sale came at a bad time for me.

And the fact that French animation is dreary, static, unfathomable and made for an "art" audience, which's why we'll probably see Fantastic Planet as an arthouse piece long before we see any more mainstream animation.

I wonder how many other people in this forum own all of the Criterion Blu-rays besides you?

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't know when I'm going to get around to watching Shoah. It might be a while, but I intend to spend a week exclusively with this film and supplements.

Ugh, I just read that. I'm probably not even going to bother with the NA release of The Grandmaster as well, even though WKW seems alright with the cuts.

In essence this is a Paramount Blu-ray with Criterion Collection branding, Criterion having very little, if anything, to do with it. The packaging was handled completely by Paramount, which is why this release comes with a regular Blu-ray case (and sleeve) and not Criterion's clear Blu-ray case."
Thanks for the info. I guess Paramount wanted Criterion's restoration techniques, but also to retain their own packaging.

I forgot that he has control over The Grandmaster. I assumed that Bong had final cut. Silly me.

Yeah, now I'm going to have to find other ways of watching the intended cut, unfortunately.

To send a replacement case and cover to you in Germany, your total would be $10.00 USD.

Static and unfathomable I'll give you, but Fantastic Planet is way too psychedelic and colorful to be called "dreary"! And this is a generalization based on a single example, Triplets of Belleville may be a bit artsy but it's definitely not animated in a "static" style.

On the subject of animated movies that Criterion could do, I'd like to see them release the Italian animated movie Allegro non Troppo...

Criterion should release Blackboard Jungle (1955), with Glenn Ford, Anne Francis, and Sidney Poitier. It was a cool groundbreaking movie, and it did help put rock n' roll on the map by way of "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets. This crossed my mind when I was going back through some of the 3:10 to Yuma reviews yesterday.

Does anyone have the movie "Lonesome"? I was really tempted to buy it the other day, but couldn't be sure that it told a coherent story that would be enjoyable to watch more than once. I was intrigued by the prospect of seeing 1920s footage of Coney Island though.

does anyone that is a member at barnes and noble print the coupons they get in emails more than once? i just used my first couple coupons as this sale was ending. i joined B&N this criterion sale and was curious if that is allowed.

i figured i'd ask in here because many of the coupons seemed to be used on criterion during sales

B&N has never allowed me to use a coupon in conjunction with one of their big sales when I've visited a location in person. A lot of people on this site were apparently able to use "20% off" coupons and such along with the 50% off sale this past month, so your mileage may vary if a clerk at a store can work around it. I haven't lost any sleep over this, though, because it's only a couple bucks either way in most instances.
