Tonight, I'm watching The Trouble with Harry. For the most part, I've been watching my Blu-rays in Alfred Hitchcock: The Masterpiece Collection pretty much in reverse order according to the video quality reviews of each Blu-ray on this site (worst PQ first, then best PQ last), but I'm saving Vertigo and Psycho for last simply because those are the ones that I was most excited to see in high definition. |

Of the original nine digipack releases, The Third Man and Last Year at Marienbad are the only ones for which replacement cases are not available. I'm not sure why, when those for two other OOP titles are still there. Maybe it's that Criterion made only a specific number, and those are sold out. While I'd prefer the plastic cases, the collector in me wants to stick with the original packaging. And I'm not sure I want to spend $5 each plus shipping for the plastic cases anyways. Interestingly enough, shortly before Chungking Express went OOP, I saw a copy in a local B&N in a plastic case, marked as "Second printing". Just as interesting is that the only copies of Bottle Rocket I've seen for a long time have been in plastic cases which are still marked "First printing". |

I watched Metropolitan last week and surprisingly it was a brilliant literary firm with the element of comedy drama. The strength of this movie, personally, involved unknown actors and actresses whom they performed exceptionally well. Metropolitan had many dialogue and engagement among with fictional characters. Each of them crystallized and revealed their background as well as expressing their future aspirations (on the latter, the theme spread out throughout the movie). The most interesting fictional characters are Tom, Audrey, Nick, and Charlie. The former is a common individual, while the latter two have aristocratic intellectual taste. Audrey is an interesting character as well. Most of the action takes place inside the hotel.
The re-watching value, in my opinion, is high. In other words, It doesn't lose its luster, because the characters are so interesting to watch. It’s almost as if you’re inside the room with them. I saw most of the supplements and extras – it wasn't much to be honest. As for the audio commentary, however, I only got a glimpse in the first nine minutes or so. I plan to see the rest at a future time (it looks interesting through on the details during my 9-minute watch). I don’t think Hollywood would create something like Metropolitan. |
