But the non-duals will go out-of-print and become valuable. The Moc "Une Femme Mariee" dual has the same disc as the Blu-ray only, but the single disc edition costs considerably more.

This seems like the first time they are doing it (and it's for all four titles).

That one is really bad, but I think Kiss Me Deadly might be the worst.

Hmm, perhaps I will hold off on opening my discs to keep the packaging mint.

(Nearly all are still wrapped since I only open when I want to view special features, and I've seen all the movies I own).

No scanners or eraserhead guess they don't want them till after the b&n sale lol.

Guess its only Francis Ha for me of those releases.
But at least it will free my money up to buy Seconds and L'eclisse/la notte/l'avventura in November!

I'm enjoying the earlier posts from people saying Zatoichi will be their most expensive BLIND buy!! I've been watching the series for free on Criterion's Hulu page...but I think I will put that on hiatus and just revel in this boxed set come Christmastime!

But you are correct, Pirates is not Criterion worthy. However it'll be cool for Arrow Video to release Pirates. I agree that it's a terrible film, and it's only watchable after having downed eleven pints but the retrospective interviews could turn out to be insightful.

As for Macbeth, that would become a welcome addition, although I wouldn't get it straight away. As for Tess, like Macbeth a welcome addition, but to be fair I would rather see Kubrick's Barry Lyndon get Criterion treatment. A much better film than Tess.

The Tenant is very much the one I'm after since its possibly my favorite film of his. I know that's a pretty tall statement, especially since he has directed Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown.

Do you think Bitter Moon might one day make the grade?

With Criterion supporting BD/DVD combos, maybe they'll jump on the UV copy bandwagon! It could happen right? right? Bueller?

The ones you listed and Macbeth are the only ones they COULD release.... Those and maybe 'What?'
I doubt What? would be a Criterion release. If they do one day release it, then they'll no doubt play up the fact that the print Criterion used was discovered in Carlo Ponti's wine cellar.

Definitely. Both are great fun and need to be on BD (there's a rumor around that Image no longer holds the rights).

Sounds like a great month. Two out-and-out masterpieces, probably one of the most insane box sets ever produced, and a recent critical darling.

City Lights and Tokyo Story are easily two of the greatest movies ever made and are must buys. I likely won't pick up the Zatoichi box. Too much money and I'd rather not add another 25 movies that'll forever stay in the unwatched pile to my collection...for the time being.

I'm still undecided on Frances Ha. I've never given Noah Baumbach a shot with his directorial films though I've been meaning to watch The Squid & the Whale and Margot at the Wedding for the longest time. I'm only familiar with his Wes Anderson collaborations. Frances Ha looks a bit too....can't find the word for it and maybe don't want to....
