The Zatoichi set blows my mind. I mean I already own all 26 and Season 1, but I'm still buying it day 1

Were the Zatoichi movies an influence on Denzel Washington's character in
[Show spoiler]The Book of Eli
? (I don't know enough about the series, but it crossed my mind based on what I do know.)

Criterion has (very lazily) just slapped their Blu-ray sticker image on DVD-dimensioned preview box art for some time. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Anyone who has seen the booklet from a recent Criterion DVD release knows that they design for Blu-ray (lots of unnecesary header and footer space in those DVD booklets). Blu-ray cases are smaller and thus cheaper to produce and warehouse. Also, dual format is a Blu-ray configuration for DVD buyers, not vice versa. I'd be shocked if these weren't Blu-ray-sized.

You should either put that in spoiler tags, or put up some sort of spoiler warning since everyone hasn't seen that movie, and comparing it to Zatoichi gives away the whole twist

This. I've seen DVD-sized previews for BD's often. I've had to change some of blu-ray.com's images to make them BD-sized in the past.

Amazing the similarities! He must really love skylines and the color grey, this man.
Cartoonist, graphic novel author/artist. Real name, Gregory Gallant. I have some of his books, good stuff.

I can't speak to Frances Ha yet but to your general point I wouldn't say 'privileged white people' is a deal-breaker but I will say 'privileged white New Yorkers whinging about how gosh-darned tough life can be' has been done to death and is to me at least something of a red flag.

Can that kind of thing be interesting and entertaining? Sure. I mean, Woody Allen basically built a career out of that kind of thing. But it can also be self-indulgent, self-important drivel.

Yeah. When it comes to French Gangster films, you are one of the biggest fans out there. As soon as you find a girl whom has seen Pepe Le Moko, snatch her up.

(The use of "Within your Reach" in Say Anything is one of the most effective uses of music in cinema history. Gets me every time)

Blu-ray cover art on Criterion website has always been in the same size as the DVD cover art.

The naysayers are out of their minds. It's a great cover.

And I can check another AFI title off the list so there's that too.

I don't mind the City Lights cover, though I feel I would like it more if there was contrast between Chaplin's skin color, and his shirt. Having both in gray seems wrong to me His shirt should have been white. Minor complaint I know, but I do feel it would improve the composition.

Yeah, you guys are right. I went to Criterion site and compared the covers just now and they seem to be all G1 size.
