I think it'll likely be in a digipack packaging like their other 3-disc releases (Seven Samurai, Battle of Algiers, Fanny and Alexander, etc..)

I was partly thinking about BFI when I posted that too! I just noticed a few days ago that they put some of Ozu's minor films on DVD in their dual format releases. I was about to buy Tokyo Story on zavvi at that point too, good thing I procrastinated lol. I still might get some others since they're pretty cheap at the moment (9.95GBP)

Me too! The backlash against Dual Format from blu-ray users is just ridiculous.

Do they? All I know is that it's available through a different channel on Hulu. But uh, I'm hoping that one's worthy of a standalone release sometime down the line.

Oh, I'm probably wrong then. I noticed it's on Hulu.com, and I assumed that it must be there just like the others that Criterion has rights to. But if it's on a different channel then they probably don't.

edit: In the details section it says "Mitsutomo Corporation." so that's likely who has the rights. The others mention Criterion. Sorry for the misinformation earlier

Well sure, but since zero people seem to understand your explanation, they'll probably keep asking.

I've never heard, nor am I interested in any of the titles for November. I'm happy for fans of those films, but I'm really hoping we get some more Kurosawa films soon, as well as some more horror (or at least horror-esq) titles.

Expand your horizons and blind-buy one or two (particulally Tokyo Story and/or City Lights). I blind-bought Seven Samurai a long time ago on DVD and that basically got me hooked on Kurosawa, and Criterion. I also blind-bought Floating Weeds, which was my introduction to Ozu. He's a master filmmaker and I'm sure you'd enjoy his movies too.

I don't get what's so hard to understand. I don't like DVD's, which i don't use, in my BD cases.

I have nobody to sell them to. DVD's are basically nothihg to me. It's an old format. I won't let the disc stay in the case since it's never going to be used. Hence garbage.

Do people here still watch DVD's on their HDTV? Not me. Only HQ HD sources.

No!

If you do not want the DVD discs, then please donate them to your local library, your local church, or your local thrift store.

There are a lot of people who are not as fortunate as us when it comes to disposable income for purchasing movies, and they would be grateful for the opportunity to watch some cool films.

True. I usually give away the DVD's of dual format releases to friends that will appreciate the movie.

I just wish Criterion would tweet or Facebook pics on their new Dual Format cases. You know they have the protype etc in their offices. they could just post pics of the cases next to the current Criterion plastic cases to show differences if any.

that way if they are god awful bad we can make our peace with them before November.

Tokyo Story and City Lights are absolutely essential films.

i even use them on my projector i dont get why a disc that you wont even see in the case is bothering you. if you hate it so much buy empty criterion 1 disc cases (5 pieces only 12$) .. give the DVDs to a libary and replace the dual disc cases.

haha seriously? you have eBay & Amazon, and a couple others to sell it on.

You'd easily get $10 for the dvd disc alone, if not more.

If my sources are correct, there are some surprise titles coming in December... and some really interesting films in the pipeline.

For now I'll just say there's a few things potentially coming back from the Laserdisc days.

I was way to young to even experience those. Guess I will have to wait.
