I wonder whether Criterion watched Carnival of Souls in its entirety?
[Show spoiler]Their synopsis says the woman survived the accident. But at the end, it becomes apparent that she died in the accident and that we have watching her live her afterlife.

Carrie would be nice, considering MGM isn't really giving it rightful due.
The Big Chill would be very cool
Dersu Uzala is crying out for a good HD presentation.
Bram Stoker's Dracula with the color and brightness levels used on the LD.
Looks like The Big Chill might be a possibility, given the recent posting about Tootsie and The Big Chill being secured.

I was just throwing those out there for fun, but a non-digibook King Kong edition would be cool, and an edition that does not tie the 1933 King Kong as heavily to the Peter Jackson 2005 remake.
Forbidden Planet...good point...there's not much they can do to improve on the current package.

How about a commentary or two? Also, an isolated score track would be fantastic.

[Show spoiler]The only way to summarize Carnival of Souls in a sensible fashion for a prospective viewer without dishing out the big spoiler is to say that she moves to a new town after a car accident.

I guess that they don't have to outright say that she "survived" the car accident, but the wording would have to be carefully chosen.

Great great great great movie. Needs to be on Blu-ray. Now.

I could go for that.

I could also go with some better cover art for a Forbidden Planet Blu-ray.

I have to say, I favor the dual format editions! I always spring for them in non-Criterion titles for a couple of reasons. One, I have several friends and family members who still have DVD players in their homes, and if I want to take a movie over to their place and watch it with them, I have the second disc just for that. Also, I take my laptop with me to work and play movies in the background and my laptop only has a DVD drive. Combo packs are very convenient for me. I do hope, however, that they are in fact the same dimensions as their previous blu-ray cases, because I do have a touch of the OCD. And as for whoever asked if anyone watched DVDs on their HD-TVs...I do all the time! It's going to take decades for me to replace every DVD title in my collection with its corresponding blu-ray and some titles may never see the upgrade available. I watch a movie when I want to watch that movie, not based on if it's HD or SD.

Philip Marlowe, Private Eye -- An HBO series from the early 80s, with Powers Boothe as Marlowe. All episodes were adaptations of Chandler stories. Released on DVD, but of so-so quality.

Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, More Tales of the City, and Further Tales of the City. Released on DVD from three different companies (one min-series apiece).

Kieslowski's The Decalogue

Von Trier's The Kingdom and The Kingdom II

On the Air -- Lynch & Frost's demented sitcom follow-up to Twin Peaks, behind-the-scenes at a comedy/variety TV show in the 50s. Never released on DVD, but I have a Japanese LD of all seven episodes.

And many more.
Yes, I would absolutely love to see The Decalogue released entirely on Criterion Blu-ray. I think Fallen Angels is an excellent pick as well!

Yes, that is what I was thinking as well. Recently Criterion were releasing supplements that were only found on the DVD versions (and not BD) and now with the Dual Format releases, we won't have to worry about not having ALL the supplements available spread out between two different formats. Of course the DVD I will just keep in the case (as a completist that I am, unlike saprano who wishes to toss the DVD in the garbage).

Why do more and more people only want to see horror titles on Criterion? Criterion is not a horror movie distributor company. October is usually the month that Criterion releases the batch of horror films for those horror lovers. But I've been a bit irked by horror film lovers, as I feel they are a rising epidemic and that more and more people love horror films and in zafisher94's case, turn a shoulder toward classic films by Ozu and Chaplin. I don't know. I guess I'm just not a big horror fan, thats all. Does that make me "untrendy"? I don't care. The world shouldn't revolve around horror films, thats all.

I have nobody to sell them to. DVD's are basically nothihg to me. It's an old format. I won't let the disc stay in the case since it's never going to be used. Hence garbage.

Do people here still watch DVD's on their HDTV? Not me. Only HQ HD sources.
Holy smokes. Did I just read this? As a diehard Criterion completist that I've become, I wouldn't dare toss any disc in the trash when I know some poor fellow on the street might want it instead (at the very least, the homeless person can use the dvd as a weapon, mirror, toy or put his lines of cocaine on it). DVD may be an old format, but some people out there still refuse to upgrade to Blu-ray (and you can sell them the DVD, whether its on Craigslist or Amazon) or at least donate to the local library or sell to a used record shop (I know there are plenty of those in NYC). Of course there are friends and family too. Or do an act of kindness and give it to a random stranger. Or maybe just tape it to a telephone pole and some lucky person will have it for free.

There are a lot of people who are not as fortunate as us when it comes to disposable income for purchasing movies, and they would be grateful for the opportunity to watch some cool films.
All true again. Donate at least! Don't trash and contribute to the ever-growing landfills.

I've pondered the idea of ordering the Pathe Blu-ray of Le Samourai just to have a placeholder of my all-time favorite movie in the Blu-ray format, but the screenshots look absymal even by my low standards. Best just to hang on to my Criterion DVD for as long as it takes.

Does Criterion still have the rights to My Man Godfrey or is it back with Universal? I'd love to see a Blu-ray release of that.

Pro-B, will you have a review for Autumn Sonata soon? Is the colour scheme so radically different as it appears to be from Beaver's caps and more importantly, is it supposed to be that way?
