I enjoy Brazil, enjoy it a lot actually. Certainly not one of my favorite films ever etc.... but I have a standard DVD, Criterion DVD, and Criterion BD of it.... so I like it enough to continue to upgrade it!

And DeNiro has such a small role..... funny that most people think of those parts when trying to sell someone on it.

David Morse's character in 12 Monkeys is truly frightening. It's hard to think of another character like him in any other movie, esp. a sci fi film. We need more movies like that.

BRAZIL was the film playing when I took over as manager at the theatre playing it, so I got to see it several times (in whole or in part) on the big screen and loved it. Many years later I got the Criterion DVD and still liked it a lot, though found it just as funny but even more depressing. Then I got the Criterion Blu-ray, but still haven't gotten around to breaking the shrink-wrap. Need to do that one of these days.

Much of Gilliam's "satire" seems recycled from the vintage Python days, only without the mix of comedy that helped it go down--He later got to contribute more to the fourth season of the show, where they brained the audience over the head with "This is satire!" but forgot to make it funny.

A bit baffled by the dislike for BRAZIL here. It's always been one of my favorite films. Granted, I first saw it on TV at the impressionable age of 14 in the second half of the 1980s, but I have never lost the love for it. And I have seen it countless times since on TV, VHS, LD, DVD, and the big screen. To me it's definitely Gilliam's best work.

I finally ordered the BD in the B&N sale and can't wait for it to get here.

For anyone that missed today's news from the UK, MoC will be releasing Volume 1 in November. Hoping we know more about Criterion's plans this time next month.

In more Criterion-related/rumored-title news, Red River is being released in the UK by MoC in October.

My prediction was right. I figured it had to be since Criterion doesn't seem to make a 3-disc case. It looks beautiful to me.

For those that are Region B friendly, check out Eureka's new announcements. They kicked ass. I actually thought Criterion was going to announce a World Cinema Foundation collection since they were touting it on their site, but Eureka beat them to the punch. Criterion may still come out with a line like it down the road though.

I got theBrazil DVD Criterion years ago for a present, then upgraded to the BD, and bought the theatrical BD. That being said, I still have yet to watch any version. I like Gilliam and love 12 Monkey's, Fear and Loathing, etc, but I just haven't been inthe mmod for what I've heard and been told by friends, it such an odd, wierd, good movie. I'll get there I'm sure... i just need to sit down for a day and put it in.

They need better cover art for Nosferatu, in my opinion. I'm eagerly awaiting the Kino Blu-ray of Nosferatu (1922), and I have no doubt that it will be the Blu-ray event of the year.

My only gripe is that I wish that Nosferatu were being released on domestic Blu-ray, since I've always had a tradition of watching the film on Halloween night.

Yeah I though it'd get the digipak treatment too.
I'm guessing it'll be the same thickness of Battle of Algiers with one side having an disc overlap like the Samurai trilogy case.

Did you expect it to somehow change, or do you just like trolling and saying the same things multiple times? I think we got it the first 2 or 3 times you said it...I'm also pretty sure you're in the extreme minority with that opinion, but you are of course entitled to it.

eh? what's so bad about it?

It's better than the original dvd artwork, and it's certainly better than the artwork we got over here.

I like the cover because of how well it fits with the other Ozu releases, and because of how the images capture his way of framing.

I've never seen Tokyo Story before, but the cover art from the upcoming Criterion release makes me want to see it. The black-and-white images on that cover are beautiful, and they trigger my spider sense that it will be a good movie.

I like the cover art, not crazy about the digibook, but not a deal breaker. I'm redoing my media shelving and it throws things off when the digis are taller than the BD cases. But that's just my OCD... Still, excited about this release!!
