The "horror" aspect does fit the theme of the movie in a way, so i don't mind it. Besides, it's a cover. The movie inside is what matters.

The Red Shoes cover is so strange! The font they used is especially bad.

For other studios, I agree. But cover art IS a big part of Criterion cult.

I know It's like some ameuter's first ever Photoshop gig. It really baffled me how this cover got passed. The designer must be the cousin of some important Criterion executive or something.

I guess I'm not part of the cult. I've been collecting Criterions since about 1992, but cover art for any title, Criterion or not, doesn't mean much to me. In fact, when it's on my shelf, I can't even see it.

Three to four blu-ray titles per month is perfect! Just after the six titles announced for June I was not for sure what to expect

Just went to Amazon to pre-order Eclipse 21: Oshima's Outlaw Sixties DVD for $37 but Amazon just raised to price to $62!!! I waited to long...

It does mean much to many others, even Criterion themselves.

The Graduate was my first Criterion. Followed shortly by Blade Runner. (Then finally a couple of Truffaut LDs.)

Hello.

After reading the review for Summer Hours, I have been wanting to get it soon, but it's not from how great a movie it is, but from it's thematics involving death are rather intriguing to me, as if something that is vulnerable and loving life. I myself have been uncomfortable about death whenever I sleep, if there is an afterlife. Many movies have talked about death, but here it doesn't drown sentimentalization to the subject. I'm not looking for an answer, but I like to think about an afterlife.

I think Masters of Cinema has the best cover art most of the time.

"Summer Hours" doesn't deal too much on the concept of death. If I was to recommend a film to you from Criterion that does focus more on the concept of the fear of death, I highly recommend Agnes Varda's "Cleo from 5 to 7" from the "4 by Agnes Varda" Criterion DVD box set. Excellent box set!

Plus, MoC is a much smaller company (actually now a small part of a large company, but still less than ten people on the MoC label) and they have a much smaller country and higher prices to work with.
