I did say they are not the same, and Polanski is a scumbag in my opinion. I was really getting at how so many still hate Kazan, who just named names when asked, but everyone in Hollywood comes to Roman's defense. That is all....

In regards to the transfer, the negative is lost, so I doubt it would look any better. And as far as extras, I think the Collector's edition is pretty extensive for a film that old, which probably didn't have much behind the scenes material available anyway.
Thanks for the information! Hate that the negative was lost, but the current BD collector's set does seem to be pretty complete. I'll be picking it up soon. And may be hitting ebay in search of the LD just because.

currently i own 27 criterion release + 6 more that i ordered yesterday + several other "criterion" movies from other labels .
around half a year ago i owned "zero"
Yeah, basically. In my eyes, the movie is perfect in every way, but I like reading different takes to see what doesn't work for someone with different sensibilities.

the movies of terrence malick have probably the most different reviews a movie could get. from absolutly awesome to absolutly boring for the same movie

i totally love them. watching a malick movie, sipping a glas of whiskey and enjoy the "art".

i ordered "to the wonder" today and im gonna get days of heaven in the nov.B&N sale. that are the only 2 malick's ive not seen yet.

400 blows is another movie that got me interessted since the reviews are so mixed up.

I love Fellini's 8 1/2, but I cannot readily explain why I love it. It's one of those films. A few months back, I wrote a clumsy review of sorts that summarizes my general perceptions of the film, but I promise that I'll write a better one next time I watch the Blu-ray.

Anyway, it's raining miserably here on Labor Day, so I'll be wrapping my the final disc of The Twilight Zone Season Three, and then enjoying The Outlaw Josey Wales and Unforgiven.

Thanks for sharing your review on 8 1/2. I always appreciate different perspectives and yours truly does make sense.

I just finished watching Things To Come, it was much better than I expected. It was not perfect of course
[Show spoiler](visible strings)
, but all in all I thought it had a lot of cool ideas thrown around.
[Show spoiler]The main point being progress, and how it must continue no matter what.
[Show spoiler]Interesting that an artist would try to stop progress, or is it?
I do have to say that it was one of the most visually appealing films from that era. If you have not seen it, the set design is amazing. Of note were the special effects, specifically how they filmed
[Show spoiler]explosions
. I have never seen that done before and was blown away that someone could even think of that in 1936! I still plan to read the book by H.G. Wells that this movie was based on as I have a feeling they left a lot of stuff out of the movie for time considerations. Check it out if you want to think about deep things and the future.

After my comment regarding the iPhone steadicam prop, I decided to search for one online.

Their standard issue is $150.

Holy Jinkies! I didn't figured it'd be cheap, but I didn't expect it would go the three digits. Is it cheaper to just make your own steadicam?

I thought it was cool and a could be a good way to introduce Criterion to others without loaning out my blu-rays. I know the quality isn't the same, but still a way to tell others. And helps me see some stuff on movies I have never seen.

Just finished Stagecoach for my film class and while I don't typically watch westerns, this was really, really good and kind of makes me want to watch more. So far I've watched two great films for this class; this and Chaplin's The Kid. Next week brings Fritz Lang's Scarlet Street.

Speaking of Westerns, I watched The Outlaw Josey Wales today. I've been a massive fan of this movie since childhood, but this was my first time seeing the movie on Blu-ray.
I was planning to watch Unforgiven today as well, but I'm going to take some time to enjoy the extras on The Outlaw Josey Wales and spend a couple days immersing myself in the package.

Westerns are great to see on Blu-ray. Criterion's Stagecoach and 3:10 to Yuma are both wonderful. Rio Bravo is a great John Wayne movie to seek out, since enjoyed Stagecoach. It goes without saying that The Searchers is a monumental work as well.

My wife and I have just started to get into westerns. Have recently watched Jubal, 3:10 to Yuma, Stagecoach, True Grit and The Magnificent Seven.

Thinking of picking up The Searchers on Blu-Ray this week.

The Sergio Leone Westerns are also unforgettable. A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, and Once Upon a Time in the West are all available on Blu-ray, while the underrated Duck, You Sucker (A Fistful of Dynamite) can be found on Blu-ray. The first three can be found in The Man with No Name Trilogy box set, which can often be found for a cheap price.

The Good, the Bad and The Ugly, in particular, is a Western that everyone should see. I was fortunate to see this on the big theater screen at a festival a few years ago.
