Haven't seen too many docs this year, unfortunately. I really liked Blackfish, but that one doesn't break new formal ground at all. It should, however, make a very good watch when it airs on CNN on October 24. Have you seen that one, Brandon?

I hope you've kept your receipts - you're being movie-audited!

The visuals in Leviathan are phenomenal. Make sure you go in with a clear head though. I had a mild head ache going in and I definitely think that detracted from the experience.

I have seen Blackfish. I was actually one of the last films that I wrote an actual piece on. I enjoyed it a lot, to my surprise. I'm glad it was an overly sympathetic, manipulative doc like I was half expecting.

Later on, there's a scene in a hospital where we see a Time magazine cover reflecting the growing tensions between the USA and USSR. The drawing of the American President is Clarke, the drawing of the Russian Premier is Kubrick.

Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy some solid acting by Scheider, John Lithgow, Elya Baskin, and especially Helen Mirren. Oh, and HAL.

It won't "wow" you like 2001, but is a solidly entertaining, well-made film.
Thanks for the advice and suggestions. I look forward to watching it now.

yeah... I know they are there, and the "big clue" is the Unicorn at the end. But it still seems to me that Deckard being a replicant ruins his journey and what he's done. but again, that's my opinion and it's nice that there can still be debate about it.

Thanks for the advice.

Blackfish has three of the scariest scenes I've seen all year :bitesnails: Worth seeing theatrically just for them too.

Are you still going to write for Sanctuary? Why'd you move?

Finally ordered Seconds with my Best Buy Reward bucks today. Can't wait to get this in. Also joined the B&N Member club, so I'll be using the $5 off $50 and the $8 off any bd $40 or more order to get La Cage aux Folles, To Be or not To Be, and Safety Last! soon... waiting on those 15% and/or 20% as well.

I can already tell this could only lead to pain in my wallet. :-\

It's a wonderful film and it is my favorite film in the Criterion Collection but it necessarily isn't one of my all time favorite movies. If that makes sense.

Dont you judge me.....

Well, if I could only reccomend one Truffaut, it would be Day for Night. Easily the best movie about moviemaking.

It's been a while since I watched Blade Runner.

How does it not work if Deckard is a replicant?

Thanks

My plan is still to write, but it's going to become much more limited and my film articles will become even more scarce, because movie theaters don't even exist here. I moved for a new job, cooking in a hotel up here. The move was almost entirely to help pay off my student loans, because the rate of pay up here is almost double what I'd make back home.

Slacker Blu-ray REVIEW

The transfer appears to have been sourced from the same master that was used for the DVD release, but is quite good.

You can't beat that. Hey, at least now you'll have the chance to dig into catalogue titles...and maybe writing about some of them. I feel for you, though. Being away from a movie theater during the fall sounds miserable.

Speaking of Westerns - might Criterion release Delmer Daves' Cowboy next year, completing his trio of Westerns made at Columbia? Interesting news from BFI's LFF program today that a 4K restoration has been done by Grover Crisp.

I suppose Twilight Time is another option, but this would make a lot of sense given Criterion released Daves' 3:10 to Yuma and Jubal.

If you haven't seen it yet, you should definitely grab their release of Marwencol too.
