I adore Abbie Cornish, and I like everything that she stars in, except for the vast majority of her films that happen to suck. Her inclusion in the movie is the only bright spot in that trailer.

Samuel L. Jackson stars in this new version, but...

A few days back, when I was working out in the gym, that old Tom Clancy adaptation, Patriot Games, was playing on the television above my treadmill. It made me nostalgic for the days before Samuel L. Jackson became "Samuel L. Jackson."

has 400 blows the same kind of digipack as "the last emperor" does?

probably should order a replacement case and cover from criterion as well.

shipping time works fine for most ebay sellers. im used to wait 4-6 weeks since i order a lot in asia as well. ^^

Bought two copies of Breathless on Amazon. One for me, and one for a future investment opportunity.

Barnes & Noble is selling 2001: A Space Odyssey for cheap right now. I might ought to pick it up on the way home. The Kubrick talk this week got me thinking about it, and I'd like to see it again.

I've actually been wanting to buy this Blu-ray for a long time, but the case is always jacked up whenever I see it in a store. If B&N has one in decent condition, I'll pull the trigger today.

while watching 2001 , you should keep in mind that the movie was made before the moon landing ! i did not know that while watching the movie , only after i did take a look at the making of.

its pretty impressiv that they had no idea how it does actually look on the moon or how it is to travel in space.

but still i prefer solaris

Oh, I've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey a million times, and I have previously owned it going back to VHS days. I've also read the novel a few times.

I prefer Tarkovsky's Solaris.

I have not revisited 2001: A Space Odyssey in a few years, but I've had a hankering to check out the Blu-ray, because I've heard so many amazing things about the picture quality.

wasnt 2001 a pretty early bluray release? i think most of the great reviews are old and there wasnt that much great stuff to compare it against.

sure it does look great, but i think there are lots of movies from that time that are on the same level and some are even better looking.

What's everyone's take on the status of the other Godard/Truffaut titles if these are really OOP? I've been meaning to pick up Band of Outsiders & don't wanna lose the chance.

I admittedly don't follow Criterion licensing agreements too closely...

band of outsiders wasnt mentioned so far for going OOP. its Breathless.

studiocanal is releasing a lot of french cinema and godard movies. maybe they will try to license more movies from criterion in the future...

A question for y'all about 2001: A Space Odyssey since we're here already...

What are your thoughts about the amazing match cut of the bone to the spacecraft?

[Show spoiler]I've always figured that this cut indicates that, in the grand scheme of things, nothing truly significant has happened between those two moments in terms of human evolution. In other words, early man's encounter with the monolith signaled one important stage of our evolution, while mankind's discovery of the monolith on the moon signaled that we as a species were ready for the subsequent evolutionary step (Bowman into the star child).

Others believe the match cut simply shows that both the bone and the spacecraft are mere tools.
