Okay! This doesn't really have anything to do Criterion but I gotta keep bragging about this! Although there has been talk of 2001 recently and Spartacus was release by Criterion so I'm gonna count that
And I also need to bring it to the attention of anyone else who might live in the area.
Look whats coming near me in a couple of days!

Since Criterion seems to be upgrading Bergman's catalog at a decent pace, what do you think we will see next? Personally, I want the Faith Trilogy, if only to see The Silence in HD, but I've heard nothing but great things about Cries and Whispers, so I wouldn't mind seeing that.

How is The Magician and the films in the Eclipse set?
You mean after Persona?

bergman's Thirst (1949) sounds pretty interessting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirst_%281949_film%29

Rut and her husband Bertil travel home by train after a holiday in Italy. Their marriage is unhappy due to Rut's changing moods and heavy drinking. While passing through the ruins of post-war Germany, Rut recalls an earlier affair with married military officer Raoul.

Kubrick is hit-or-miss with me, and I'm quite happy with The Shining and 2001: A Space Odyssey in my collection out of the films in that set. I am planning to make The Killing my next Criterion purchase, though, and I should upgrade my old DVD of Paths of Glory at some point.

As much as I appreciate the artistry of such films as A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, or Eyes Wide Shut, I don't see much of a need to own them.

That collection of yours is a pretty sweet deal for the price, though! I'd admittedly be tempted if I were to stumble across it.

When Kubrick hit the mark, he really hit it dead-on in a way that nobody else could match.

As the once resident Bergman-phile in this forum, I don't think you can go wrong with the Early Bergman Eclipse set or The Magician, which is one of my favorites. I'm glad to see that you picked up the Artificial Eye blu-ray set since most of those films in the set haven't seen a US release on disc. Criterion has some of the other Bergman films on their Hulu channel that they'll hopefully get around to releasing, but until then you can also seek out the DVDs on Amazon UK that Tartan UK released years ago. There are still about 9 or 10 Bergman films Tartan UK released on DVD that haven't seen a US release, yet. Most people probably don't consider them "top-tier" Bergman films, but if you're like me and enjoy and appreciate his sense of humor then all of his films are "top-tier."

Also, check out Sawdust & Tinsel on Criterion DVD, if you haven't already. I would love for this one to get the blu-ray upgrade.

For some reason, I keep forgetting that Smiles of a Summer Night is available on Blu-ray. It's probably because I never seem to stumble across it in stores. That's one Bergman that I really need to upgrade from DVD at some point. It's lighter fare, but nonetheless essential.

I'd love for The Year of Living Dangerously to come to blu (on Criterion would be even sweeter - it's currently my pick over at my Criterion page as the one I most want to come to Criterion). One of my top ten.

Peter Weir is also my favorite director of all time: I've loved everything he's done. Yes, even Green Card.

I've had a hankering to revisit my Blu-ray of The Way Back, and I'll probably do that this weekend. It's such an underrated recent Weir film.

I really hope that we get Picnic at Hanging Rock and The Last Wave on Blu-ray soon. The Mosquito Coast would be another grand addition to the Collection, of course.

Same sentiments exactly. Picnic On Hanging Rock is begging to be given the magic Criterion treatment.

Looks as though The Brood and Scanners are shoe-ins. I'm not sure what else, though. Eraserhead, maybe. Persona is coming (Woo hoo!), but I don't know if it's coming so soon.

Le Samouraï is out of the running this year, I'm inclined to believe, but we'll hopefully see it at some point when they have an acceptable transfer.

Yes. I'm talking about them upgrading films they've already got the rights to and released on DVD.

I did watch all these women when it was in the Criterion Days of Summer on Hulu. I would continue to use Hulu as a resource if the Internet where I relocated to was able to handle it. I'm very much looking forward to the AE set. For the longest time, my eyes just glossed over whenever I saw it, assuming that it was just a collection of Bergman staples like The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries and the likes.

Before I watched Summer Interlude last night, that was the last Bergman I had watched. I enjoyed it, as I do all of his works, but it doesn't fall anywhere within my favorites of his.

After watching some Cronenberg and Bergman this week, I'm hoping even more for an announcement that includes Scanners, The Brood, and/or Persona. I hope Criterion goes out on a high note after an already stellar year.

I still have the "restored" laserdisc, that's about as close as we've got to the latter for now, I think, though it's really more an "everything and the kitchen sink" transfer.

This could mean anything or nothing but Aronofsky just retweeted someone asking for The Fountain on Criterion.

I could take or leave Cronenberg. I think his "normal" films are his best, even if the culty ones may be fun.
