I'm pretty sure that boxset is OOP now.

AE started releasing them separate Sacrifice & Nostalgia have had re-releases so far. Sadly no blu.

The Big Chill & Tootsie, almost positive.
It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World was originally slated for Nov (the 50th Anniversary) but was delayed to create more extras. It could've also got bumped to Dec.

With Autumn Sonata coming this Fall, I wouldn't expect Persona until 2014. Just because it hit Hulu and was hinted at in the newsletter doesn't mean it'll come out the very next month.

So I don't know if this CC film has been talked about a lot before? I Just saw Kiss Me Deadly. My fast review of it: F'n awesome noir flick man!!!! From the style to the writing to that ending! Great movie. Definitly buy it if you haven't. Side note Maxine Cooper was a real looker in that one wowza.

J.
Kiss Me Deadly was the first Criterion blu I purchased. I had just gotten a blu ray player and was trying to only limit my purchases to a few select upgrades from DVD. I was in a store and saw the Criterion DVD of this, then noticed they had the blu as well. I thought "What the hell" and got the blu. Of course, that was the first step on the slippery slope of completely overhauling my collection, selling off most of my DVDs and going blu ray crazy.

So to Criterion, though clenched teeth my wife "thanks" you guys!

Well, technically, so is Campion.

I wish there more Australian films available on Blu-ray, especially those from Peter Weir. I feel that a lot of people instantly think of Mad Max or The Road Warrior when referring to Australian cinema, but that should not be the case.
Well, there's nothing wrong with those films "representing" Australian film, as they were instrumental in helping put Australian film on the world map. But, yes, there is much more to Australian film than Mad Max.

I, too, want to see more Weir on Blu-ray. He's grossly under-represented in the format. Another Aussie filmmaker I love who has no films out on Blu-ray (hell, even his films on DVD are mostly OOP nowadays, even in Australia) is Paul Cox. And Bruce Beresford, of course (his The Getting of Wisdom is a delightful movie that I haven't seen in way too long). And John Duigan (The Year My Voice Broke, Flirting, Sirens, and Wide Sargasso Sea), and much, much more.

Have you seen this excellent Australian film called The Dish? It got about 96% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer. I saw this film in a local theater when it came out in 2001. It was a nice and light comedy.[/QUOTE]

The Dish is wonderful. Have you seen Sitch's first film, The Castle? Just as good.

That's actually my favorite Bergman film.

I'm not sure I could take more of The Fountain. On the other hand, it might help make more sense out of the film.

Me, too.
Jay, I just felt the character development was paper thin. So, another 20 minutes or so would make a HUGE difference. You know, it may go from really contrived and over ambitious to, at least, fairly resonant.

I can understand why someone would never want to give it another shot, though.

Everyone loves The Kid.

Not to be a party pooper, but the Keaton shorts are where it's at. One Week is bloody brilliant.

The Kid is my favorite, but I definitely would not consider it a short, given it is almost 70 minutes long

I'm thinking more along the lines of "The Immigrant" and so forth. Plus, isn't The Kid a feature film by him?

I finally found the Dirty Harry Collection for less than $30, so I pulled the trigger. I figure that these five movies are pretty safe from Criterion announcements for a long long while.

I'm still not sure what to make of the Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Twitter post from a couple months back, except to say that I have not heard anything else from the Criterion Collection with respect to the film.
I'd love to see Eastwood in the Collection at some point, though. Maybe we can rally for Play Misty for Me.

I'm cool with people not liking The Fountain, but is it really that hard to understand?

The 1971 version runs 50 minutes due to a combination of deleted footage and running 24fps.

I saw the '71 cut on TCM via a newer Janus/MK2 master and it looks amazing. Hopefully Criterion is able to put both the original 1921 and recut 1971 versions together. Especially since the combined runtime would barely be two hours.

Yes, I obviously do realize Campion is from NZ... sometimes I get confused on which films she shoots in NZ or OZ. I haven't seen The Castle yet and may check the library to see what that is about. You mention a lot of good films that need to be on BD. I've seen many of those. Lately, I think the cinematic work of John Hillcoat and Nick Cave is amazing, though I didn't see their latest film: Lawless. It's interesting how those Australians are writing American stories/films. You never see American writers/directors ever glorifying Australia though...seems like its always the other way around. Why? It's an interesting question.

Yes. I saw it on TCM two summers ago, it mustve been the 24fps version.

Lawless is the most accessible John Hillcoat film to date, but it's still an exceptional movie with beautiful scenery and a good Nick Cave score. Parts of the movie were filmed where I grew up.

I used to own The Proposition and The Road on DVD, and sold them with the intent of upgrading to Blu-ray soon, but I'm sort of over those movies for the time being and have not had an urge to shell out for the Blu-rays, although the Blu-rays are incredible cheap. The urge to see those movies will probably hit me in a year or so, and, typically, the prices will have climbed back up again.
