Eastern Promises is very solid. I have too many Cronenberg gaps to reasonably rank it but I wouldn't hesitate to put it over A History of Violence (which I really dislike).

When can we expect the next Criterion sale? I love when they're $19.99.

I think we're expecting a potential one at Criterion's website soon..just based on it happening around this time of year before

Loved To The Wonder, but Place Beyond the Pines beat it out so far. Still haven't seen Before Midnight yet, though. Side Effects I liked a lot.... even Beyond The Candelabra. Otherwise, it's been a really awful year. Almost every big summer film was a disappointment, Mud was good but fell apart in the end... looking forward to La Passe, Blue Is The Warmest Color, and Blue Jasmine.

Worst of the year has to be Spring Breakers, followed by Man Of Steel.

As much as I like Videodrome, I rate all of Cronenberg's post Fly work much higher than his early horror stuff. Although it has been a while since I've seen a fair amount of it. I'm curious to see how Spider or M. Butterfly plays while not viewed on VHS.

Crash is on my tippity top wishlist to get a spine, or at least a solid release somewhere.

Apropos of nothing, where is John Sayles on Blu? Is he even in the CC? It would seem like he would be a lock, but I can't think of anything.

its already time for new annoucements again?

another kurosawa would be really nice but i wouldnt say no to another Tarkovksy like andrei rublev or stalker.

but with the upcoming Zatoichi box i would say there is already enough japanese stuff for this year

a korean classic would be something nice as well.

there are currently some really good movies on hulu for free!
Paris Texas and my life as a dog for expample

Lone Star needs a blu release ASAP. As much as I have always thought it would fit nicely into the Criterion Collection, I'd take it from anyone as long as it is a quality transfer.

If we get another Tarkovsky, I want to see "The Mirror".

However, I don't expect that to happen.

There was a point when I would agree. Thanks for reminding me of his genius. It's about time I put his music back on my iPhone.

Last night, I got into 2001: A Space Odyssey for a third time this week to watch the commentary track with Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood. I did not make it all the way through this third viewing before bedtime, but I was impressed at the insights of these two actors with regard to the movie.

If you own the Blu-ray and have not rolled through the commentary track yet, then I highly recommend it.

That would describe me. Need to get on that as soon as I run down the couple dozen blurays in my collection I have yet to watch.

I don't listen to commentaries as often as I'd like, but I think anyone that has any interest in film must listen to Ebert's commentary for Citizen Kane. I had the opportunity to listen to it in a huge theater with him sitting a few rows back and I was just floored. It's incredibly informative and makes you look at the film in an even better light.

I will be starting the America: Lost And Found set in a little while.

Just curious as to what everyone's reactions are to the set? (Maybe a film ranking of best to worst, too).

If you want to start worst to best, see A Safe Place & Drive, He Said first.

The rest of the set is impeccable (even if Head is pure nonense...albeit, fun nonsense)

Have Fun!

I have a User Review of the set on that page, but here is my breakdown...

1. Five Easy Pieces
2. The Last Picture Show
3. Easy Rider
4. Head
5. Drive, He Said
6. The King of Marvin Gardens
7. A Safe Place

Thanks for the info.

I'll probably just watch them in the order they are in the set.

The Michael Jeck commentary for Seven Samurai has always been my favorite. I think I first heard it on the Criterion Laserdisc.

I just found out that Davy Jones was actually in my town a couple years back performing as part of a beach festival. Pretty neat.
