some ebay shops.. oddbanana , blowitouthere , moviemars , get_importcds..

few of them have some decent prices if you are gonna import these movies. sure if you are in the U.S. and a B&N member its still more expensiv.

but a lot of criterions are around 19,50$-25$ in these shops + 4,99$/5.99$ shipping.

so now i ended up paying 19.92GBP for night of the hunter including shipping. thats still below the duty free limit for germany.

ivans childhood would be 25.20$ including shipping thats 15.94 GBP. thats only a little bit more expensiv compared to a B&N sale. (if you are lucky and dont get charged by customs)

problem if you are gonna import these movies with B&N are:

if you get charged by customs you end up paying more compared to these shops.

im not all that happy with the B&N customer service. takes them really some time to respond.

delivery time isnt really that great. all these ebay shops use DHL world mail and in a lot of cases you get a tracking number that does acutally work !

some of them like blowitouthere dont include the shipping fee in the total amount you have paid. so there are even higher chances you are below the duty free limit of your country.

and the last two times i ordered at B&N it took them over a week each time to acutally ship the stuff...

Received my copy of Breathless today. My OCD is crying at the packaging... I was hoping for the standard Criterion clear case package.

Oh well.

So today I ordered The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Three Colors, and The Seventh Seal with Best Buy Rewards... cost me a total of $5.39!

So as it sits, my "to watch" section of Criterion discs (including those I just ordered) is as follows (in alpha order):

12 Angry Men
The 400 Blows
Breathless
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button*
Howard's End
The Ice Storm*
The Last Emperor*
The Red Shoes
Seconds
The Seventh Seal
The Silence of the Lambs (dvd)*
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
Stagecoach
The Thin Red Line*
Things to Come
The Three Colors
To Be or Not to Be

The ones with * I've seen before, but not the CC edition. The question now is, where to start?

Default "Ran" Slipcover Question

Hey,

Even though this isn't a directly related to Criterion, I was wondering if anyone here by chance knew where I could purchase a slipcover for StudioCanal's Blu-ray release of Kurosawa's film "Ran"? I've read that there are occasions on eBay where you can buy just slipcovers but haven't had any luck with this film. So, if anyone can help me out with this I'd be very grateful to you.

Thanks!

True, but maybe some people get off on that movie, despite it being unsexy. The graphic nudity is very explicit. How can anyone label or define that movie? Some people like torture combined with nudity and that can be titillating to them (to each their own). I think if you judge this film as a film released in 1976, many people considered this to be pornographic. Today, of course, this film is just "artsy" and stylized. This article is worth checking out though: http://www.ifc.com/fix/2009/05/in-th...of-pornography

Anybody seen the Fox/Pathe edition of The Leopard? Is it true that it's better than the Criterion version? Been meaning to add that film to my collection for a long time.

I didn't know there was a slip cover to any of Studio Canals digibook things. Do you mean some sort of standard third party protection sleave, or an offical SC card sleeve?

some studiocanal releases of ran are in a normal blue amaray case with a slipcover (like the one from spain, i do own myself).
and some are in a digipak / book. the UK release has a normal amaray/cover release as well, same for the korean release that has a slipcase.

korean release with slipcase is avaible at yesasia
