twilight zone type tale? would you agree? if yes, then add yet another one on my to see list.
I just watched it, and yes I would say that's a perfect comparison. Very Twilight-Zone-ish.

Well, they do have 28 films coming out in November...

Here's my review of Seconds from last month. I name-drop The Twilight Zone in my review.

I think that Seconds is a candidate for the best Criterion title of 2013, along with Badlands.

I really wish that DVD would have gone away years ago, but I guess this Criterion announcement is the final nail in that wish. At least for a few years.

It's really going to be annoying for box sets. I don't care what they say as far as efficiency and packaging. It's a nuisance to have a bunch of extra discs. I can deal with a 2 disc set just fine (1 DVD and 1 blu-ray doesn't bother me). But a 2 disc blu-ray is now going to be 4 discs? (so this will effect the simpler packaging on what would be 2 disc blu-rays) And the Zatiochi set that could have been 10 disc set is going to be 25 discs? I don't get how that can possibly be more economical for them. I think just having that many useless discs is a turn off to me. It just seems ridiculous. Basically an entire spindle worth of DVD's I don't want.
Great point on the potential waste when it comes to BD + DVD box sets. I think for us BD only people, it will be a nuisance, but for CC, I can see how it may prove cost effective for them. Ultimately, I am able to glance over the issue if Criterion as a company comes out on to.

Glad to see you love it so much, but that honor will go to La Notte for me.

I have not yet seen La Notte yet, so Seconds may very well be dethroned before year's end.

Nashville fans should definitely check out this book on the film's shooting and legacy, it was an entertaining and informative read.

In all honesty, I'm not really sweating the Criterion December releases, since I have a massive wish list of movies from this fall's release schedule.

Here's my list of planned Fall 2013 purchases...

Slacker
The Big Combo
From Here to Eternity
3 Films by Roberto Rossellini Starring Ingrid Bergman
I Married a Witch
Eyes Without a Face
Stalag 17
High Plains Drifter
The Haunting
Weird Science
The Stranger
John Cassavetes: Five Films
La Notte
The Three Faces of Eve

Nosferatu (1922)
Rebel Without a Cause
Intolerance: Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages
The Right Stuff
City Lights
Assault on Precinct 13
(I have the Image Blu-ray, but this is one of my favorite flicks, so I'll probably upgrade.)
Tokyo Story
The Vivien Leigh Anniversary Collection
Mary Poppins

This is not even including the "second tier" stuff on my desired list (Fantastic Voyage, Day of the Animals, The Uninvited, Zatôichi: The Blind Swordsman, etc.).

These are all spaced apart pretty well, but....geez.

Compared to the other films in the trilogy (and the two films he made afterwards), it may appear to be Antonioni's most minor film of that period, but it is an absolute treat for the senses.

I look forward to hearing your verdict this November if chance should permit

Since La Notte stars Jeanne Moreau and Monica Vitti, and is part of the trilogy of two other films that I hold in high esteem, the chance that I'll buy it within days of its release is about 100%

They're not going with separate DVD releases. Everything is going to be combo from now on. The only reason Grey Gardens is blu only is because it's an upgrade, the DVD was released years ago. For any new product, it'll be combo packs.

Criterion's website states that Nashville will be 1 Blu and 2 DVDs, I don't know what kind of packaging it will be in, but man what a waste! I'll be getting twice as much of what I DON'T want than what I'm actually buying it for, especially as I already have the Paramount DVD release.

Great! Just remember that there may be a B&N sale the following month.

Jesus Mary Mother of God... I have not paid a lot of mind to this, but I just checked, and I'm probably less than a month from becoming a Blu-ray Ninja.

I've become a little too attached this place over the past year, since it's fun to post here while I'm waiting for work query documents to upload and such.

2013 has not exactly been the epitome of moderation for yours truly.

After last year where the reveal of December's titles made me physically jump out of my chair in excitement, this slate feels somewhat disappointing. I have an interest in all of them (been meaning to see Nashville for a while), but nothing is a must-buy. I'm afraid I must join the Lynch Mob (), because I'm losing patience waiting for Eraserhead.

Oh, well. At least I have a bit of time to save some money.

Sorry this is a bit less composed than usual. I'm in bed, trying to sleep off a stomach bug. Checking the announcements is one of the only reasons I'm awake right now.

I've seen Grey Gardens and read that some thought that it was exploitive, then someone else thought that the ladies consented to being filmed, so it wasn't exploitive. Then I was curious whether they were capable of consenting.

Have seen Nashville on DVD (which was visually decent for DVD) and it's slow starting but finishes well. It's very dated. Perhaphs reviewers can call it a "time capsule." I don't have any immediate desire to see it again.

Will have to look into the WCF set, because I'm curious about anything Martin Scorsese is involved with.

I didn't realize or forgot. I haven't seen anyone mention it in the forums I've visited. What a surprise though!
