So took my 20% coupon, along with B&N member card, and bought The 39 Steps at B&N. A blind buy for me, but seems like a good one.

Pretty excited about this one, especially after a lot of what I have read around here. I'll be sure to post once I finally get a chance to watch it.

I really enjoyed it. I picked up 3 Criterion's in that same genre. I really preferred Ministry of Fear the most, but 39 Steps was still excellent!

I'm in the minority here, but The 39 Steps is my favorite of the three Hitchcock films on Criterion. I mean, they're all perfect 10 movies, but The 39 Steps particularly shines.

They didn't have any in stock at the store, so I went with 39 Steps.

I'm pretty excited about it, and I don't have a lot of experience with Hitchcock films, so it's a little more exciting to watch.

Movies aren't what they used to be sadly.
Welcome, CriterionJunkie, to the forum! I'm glad your first Criterion release was Robocop and not Armageddon or The Rock.

Default Criterion "99 reasons" disc

Have a lot of you received the "99 reasons" promo disc at B&N when you bought a Criterion Blu-ray/DVD at the store in the past month (for the B2G1 sale)? I'm hoping these promotional discs are still available in the stores around here because it would be sort of collectable to obtain one of these "99 reasons" discs.

Has anyone been able to use any discount coupon codes on the B&N website successfully? Last month I decided to become a B&N member but I keep getting ineligible errors whenever I try any codes.

I saw a huge stack of these 99 Reasons discs at the counter when I took advantage of the B2G1 last week and when I purchased Slacker yesterday.

I just sort of glanced at them, and did the "Ain't nobody got time for that!" shrug. I always used to grab each and every free promo disc that I saw in stores, but I never listened to them or watched them, so they were just clutter.

That said, I do have several cool Criterion postcards that were given to me when I used to buy Criterions from an indie record store years ago. I should go into my closet box, find these, and post a photo of them.

I got one a few weeks ago. Apparently there are 2 of these, a Vol 1 and Vol 2. The ones they seem to have out now, are Vol 2.

it was free, so I said "what the heck?"

Nope.. always says no good. But I get to use them in store. I actually called B&N support about it and they told me it was because they were already discounted more than the coupon. I told them that was stupid and it made the Member program seem useless for online purchases. They told me that anything over about 15 or 20 percent off MSRP, you couldn't use the coupons.

I have both volumes and enjoy them. I know some people see them as pointless, but I like the videos and prefer to watch them on my tv vs my pc.

Okay, I went into my closet box and found my Criterion postcards.

I apologize for the blurry iPhone 4 camera, but here are some photos. On the second photo, I have one of the cards flipped so that you can see the postage side. The one on the top right of the first photo is The Great Owl's favorite!

[Show spoiler]

[Show spoiler]

I also have some postcards for non-Criterion titles.
For the three Atonement postcards on the bottom, the words in red say, "You Can... Only Imagine... The Truth"

[Show spoiler]

[Show spoiler]

In the below photo, the card to the right is not a postcard, but more of a leaflet advertising the James Bond movie showings at my local theater back in July, where I attended Dr. No and From Russia with Love, with the dates for each movie. Pretty cool.

[Show spoiler]

And now... The grand finale...

(drumroll, please)

(wait for it, people)

[Show spoiler]

Tamara Drewe! Helloooooo, Gemma Arterton.

Oh, and if anybody is interested in owning these Criterion postcards, I will gladly trade them for a mint condition copy of The Third Man on Blu-ray.

(Hey...it's worth a shot. Haha.)

Those are cool postcards, Great Owl. I can understand that you didn't want to add more clutter with those 99 reasons discs. Now I feel bad I probably missed out on Vol. 1 of the discs, but maybe I'll visit a local store and see if they have both volumes still. I usually couldn't care less for promos like this but when its Criterion, it just adds extra collectibility to me for some odd reason (sort of like collecting some of those blue stickers )

If I end up going back to B&N for another Criterion fix, then I'll pick up a Volume 1 disc to mail to you if they have any left. Not sure if I'll get a chance, but I'll look if I do.
