"It does not however the 1st printing cardboard case with the slipcover... many consumers felt let down with the original case, etc - it was soon replaced with a superior plastic case which are the one's I have."
Is this true? If so why? A plastic case makes it look cheap I would think and not superior to the other version?
Well like I said a few posts ago if you buy a lot of Criterion the old cases are just going to keep looking more and more awkward next to them. They are also weak and the slipcovers are not night enough to the inside so they don't hold up very well. I don't have a single one that is in perfect shape (Marienbad isn't too bad) and not slanted weird. And that was how they were when I bought them so not even something I can blame myself for. They are also a little taller than Blu-Ray cases normally are so even if you don't buy a lot of Criterion and have them next to standard Blu-Rays they will look awkward. So yeah the plastic cases are much better IMO. Also like that they are still something different from a normal case instead of just a normal Blu-Ray case in a slipcover like Benjamin Button or the Studio Canal Collection (In North America). I just hope they just stick with these cases now instead of constant variations like the DVD's have had.

This is what the complete Criterion Blu-Ray Collection (Minus the ones from today since I took this before getting those... and also have Studio Canal ones with them) looks like ordered (Large image so I will spoiler tag it)....

[Show spoiler]

As you can see it just doesn't look very nice with how the old cases screw up the allignment (As do the boxed collections but once/if I get the plastic cases for the others will just put the boxes elsewhere and just have the plastic cases out). Not sure if they picture makes it obvious just how mishapen a couple of those older ones are either. My Chunking Express case in particular is pathetically out of shape and like I said was like that when I bought it and all of the ones the store had were just as bad or even worse so I tried to go with the best one even

Actually kind of sad that the Studio Canal ones line up better than the old Criterion. A tight slipcover over the plastic cases is what they should have done from the start and then kept doing.

Yes, I bought one at my local Best Buy (Tucson, Wetmore&1st Location). Didn't even realize that this wasn't supposed to come out till next week until I added it to DVD Profiler and saw the upcoming release "Days until release" number. All I knew when I saw it was that I was on my wish list (it was filmed not far from where I lived at the time, in 1998). For people on the thread, there is now one left on the shelves there as of 12:30pm today...

Also picked up Lola Montes today. Not new, but I had one of those deja vu moments last night involving this movie. I am reading "1848: The Year of Revolution" and her name came up. So this brings my Blu-ray Criterion collection to eight (Lola Montes, Ride with the Devil, Bigger than Life, For All Mankind, Days of Heaven, Yokimbo, Sanjuro, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) plus three DVDs (The Last Emperor, Seven Samurai, and The Royal Tenenbaums).

Have not seen this mentioned before, but thought it was pretty cool that Criterion's email newsletter today about Summer Hours Blu-ray contains a link to Bluray.com's review.

Also funny that today we are on page 420 on 4/20, just saying...

I bought 4 of the new replacemnet cases from Criterion;

1. The Third Man
2. Chungking Express
3. The Man Who Fell to Earth
4. The Last Emperor

Liked them so much I ordered the other five;

1 The Last Metro
2. El Norte
3. The 400 Blows
4. Bottle Rocket
5. Last Year at Marionbad

Bottle Rocket (imo) is pretty much as perfect as movie can be. If you like Wes Anderson's movies I can't see you being disappointed with it. If you're still reluctant to spend $30 on a blind buy then look around on the internet for the old sony dvd... you should be able to find it for next to nothing. If you do buy it, you're going to want to upgrade immediately...

I could live with that first as well. Or better yet the same day/month in a themed month of non-Kurosawa Samurai films! Hara-Kiri, The Sword of Doom and not technically a samurai movie but a different take on the samurai code and just because I really, really want it on Blu-Ray Le samouraï

And I don't know when I'm going to do with myself in about two months when Lost is over forever. There are other shows I really like such as Dexter, but none of them are even in the same league as Lost. When the last episode ends I imagine I'll feel like a beloved relative passed away.

Tell me about it. I've already watched seasons 1-5 twice in the past year.
I haven't watched any of Flashforward, but I know it shares some actors, and my mom said it's pretty good. Also, the other J.J. Abrams show, Fringe, isn't that bad. Granted I've only seen season 1, and I heard the ratings were low and the budget was majorly cut for season 2...

But yeah, Dexter, House (even though they haven't released any on blu), True Blood, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia...hopefully all those keep getting renewed for more seasons.

"V" has also turned out to be a really good remake of the old 80's miniseries. It doesn't hurt that Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost stars in it. And ya, I love True Blood too. The 10 part "The Pacific" miniseries is amazing, but that series only has four parts remaining unfortunately.

I would like to have seen Abrams turn his Star Trek reboot (the movie was amazing) into a new Star Trek TV series. It seems he's going to just keep it as a series of feature films though.

Outside of Lost almost all the sitcoms I watch are on Showtime or HBO. Regular cable TV has been on a long downward spiral.

I donno, have you checked out ABC on Wednesday?
The Middle, Modern Family, and even Cougar Town are all really funny shows. Great first seasons from all, hopefully they all get released on blu.

Yes, I must beg deference from the Lost fans I just can't get into network TV though. I enjoyed Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles but of course Fox cancels that just like another series I enjoyed, Firefly, so I give up now...I'll stick to spinning up Blus and ESPN...

Shifting things back towards Criterion for a sec...

Something that KINDA bugs me, and I'm wondering why they do this...is some titles they release in the native language (Vivre sa vie), yet some titles they translated into English (Breathless).

Maybe that's my OCD kicking in...but it kinda throws off uniformity. Why not just leave Breathless in it's native French title? Or why not change Vivre sa vie into an English translation?
