I just bought Secret Sunshine at the flash sale tonight. There's only 9 hours left so since I missed all the new releases as they got sold out, I got a movie that was on my bucket list of "wants". It's the only Korean film Criterion has released so I'm curious. I think it will have been a good blind buy.

Anyone see this film too?

Think I may go for:

Lord of the Flies
The Blob
Videodrome
The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much
The Lady Vanishes
The Game
Rosemary's Baby
Repo Man
Badlands
Naked Lunch
Seconds

Based upon my collection do you guys think I'd enjoy these? Most would be blind buys.

If you like Hitchcock by all means go for

The 39 Steps
The Man Who Knew Too Much
The Lady Vanishes

I am pretty sure you will like

The Game
Rosemary's Baby

Those are solid choices based on any collection, and I'm willing to bet that you'll find a lot to enjoy in this haul. Let us know your thoughts after you've seen these.

I should have mentioned the Hitchcock movies during my recommendation post above, but somehow neglected to do so (although he is my favorite director, and these are all exemplary films).

Friend of mine that saw the movie was raving about the lead actress' performance. It's likely you will have an absorbing time with this one.

Off-topic here in the Criterion thread, but here is my review of the new Halloween Blu-ray.

I watched this new edition of Halloween a couple nights ago, and I think that it is a tremendous set. I could not believe how amazing the movie looks with the new transfer, and I had a lot of fun with the commentary and extras as well.

Yes. It's absolutely devastating. I watched it on Netflix before I picked it up during the Summer sale. If you've seen (and like) Lee's other films, then you should like it. If you haven't seen Lee's other films, then watch Poetry.

Seriously, though. It's great if you can handle it. It's incredibly well made and has one of the greatest performances of the decade.

Non-criterion suggestion, but if you are a Secret Sunshine fan, I'd suggest you try to import Peppermint Candy, great film.

Tried watching this once. I had this feeling during the first 25 minutes
[Show spoiler]that things were going to go to hell
. Needless to say I didn't finish it, but since I now know what happens I made the right choice. For those who can stomach it, I've heard nothing but praise.

I really want to see that one. I've seen all of his other films except for that one. Sounds like another heavy dose of Lee.

It's a safe bet you'll like one of them.

I personally consider Sansho a masterpiece and didn't care at all for Marketa.

I just stumbled on this thread a few months ago and I've been enjoying reading, catching up, and getting to know all of you. I've finally joined and decided the Criterion Flash Sale was a good time to jump in!

I used a Criterion gift certificate received for my birthday last year and my $10 White credit. I've seen them all, but don't own them in any format:

Breathless. Saw once on TCM; enjoyed it, but wasn't sure I needed to buy it until the rumblings about it going out of print.
The Man Who Knew Too Much. Watched the dvd from one of those Hitchcock public domain sets at my in-laws' house. Transfer was worse than vhs, but the film was fun and I'm anxious to see the Criterion.
Wild Strawberries. Borrowed from the library. Just a beautiful, touching film.

I'm good at buying blu-rays. I need to get better at watching them.

Oh jeez, sorry about that, that sucks. Canada is a fine country though, Stratford Ontario was a blast. Enjoy your films!

No problem. I don't want to see you paying more than you have to. Even E-Bay has suckered many of its U.S. sellers into going through a Global Priority shipping programme so they can charge B-S "import" charges when shipping to Canada, which is nothing more than a cash grab.

I bought 3 Japanese films from Criterion yesterday and I already own 1 Criterion from that country. They really should release more though, and lessen their samurai output.

It's also pretty shameful that there are barely any Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong or Korean films in their Blu-ray catalog. Hell, I think they have more from the Soviet Union than from countries that still exist!

Ordered four more, and then realized I already own The Naked Kiss. But I got the order processing e-mail immediately after ordering. I tried e-mailing them, but haven't heard anything back yet. So I guess I may have a copy of that to trade haha.

I placed my order within 90 seconds of the sale starting but I'm seeing people say their orders have shipped. I got my confirmation minutes later. Are people just getting lucky with that kind of turn around time?

$70 for the 3, shipping to Canada.

A little miffed that they are only selling a certain number of each title. I will have to save Seconds & The Spy WCIFTC for B&N or anything Amazon provide sale wise.

Everlasting Moments and The Ice Storm, are two of my favourites!
