Hahaha. That stewardess was Rock Hudson's real-life girlfriend at the time, and she's beautiful. (Probably why I did not notice any pillow goof until now.)

True story:
I've never noticed a goof in a movie on my own before. I've only noticed them after they've been pointed out to me by other people. When I'm watching a movie, I always fall for the magician's sleight of hand and I am always immersed in the story on its own terms.

I'm the same way. I'm happy in my ignorance because once one is pointed out to me I never not notice it again. Prime example: the shooting scene in North By Northwest.

That makes the scene better in my eyes.

My grandparents had to point it out to me.

Somebody pointed the North by Northwest goof out to me a few years back, but it does not diminish my enjoyment of that scene at all. Probably because I never noticed the background before, and I went happily back to not noticing it after the goof was brought to my attention.

Incidentally, nobody, and I mean nobody, says, "Stay away from me!", better than Eva Marie Saint. On the Waterfront, North by Northwest, etc. I think that they called on her every time there was a movie script with that line. She just does it so....superbly.

This is highly unlikely.

He was gay. Beard's are terms for the straight women that gay men constantly hang out with, often times to hide their sexuality. IE people see you with a girl all the time, a lot of them will suspect that's your spouse/girlfriend/whatever.

Ah! I had never heard that term before. I know about Rock Hudson's history, but I did not give that much thought when I heard in the commentary that she was his girlfriend (or just girl friend, I suppose). It's still sad about what ultimately happened to Rock Hudson. I was a big fan when I was a kid, because I loved all of those 1970s disaster movies, including Avalanche, so I was bummed out about his death while most of my middle school friends were telling jokes about him.

Ditto..extremely sad. That awful disease completely devoured him. Nobody should go out like that.

I just ordered Laura and Sunset Boulevard from Amazon for a total of $25.47. This is an inexpensive way to further my film noir collection on Blu-ray, and I'm pretty excited for both of these.

Laura was directed by Otto Preminger, whose Anatomy of a Murder I just revisited a few days ago by way of Criterion's excellent release.

Upon ordering Sunset Boulevard, I realized, yet again, that Billy Wilder's Ace in the Hole needs an upgrade from Criterion.

Regarding Eva, was any leading lady sexier or more seductive than her with the delicious dialogue she has on the train in NbNw? I know I fall under her spell every time I hear it.

I love Laura - I hope someone releases Preminger's Where The Sidewalk Ends on Blu Ray in the near future!

Eva Marie Saint captivates me in North by Northwest, and that train scene is a big reason why. She's so strikingly beautiful during that entire film, and her voice is uniquely lovely.

I love the scene in On the Waterfront where Marlo Brando picks Eva Marie Saint's glove up off of the ground, and, instead of handing it back to her, puts it on his own hand. That is one of many scenes that give the movie a great "lived-in" feel for added authenticity.

Not a Criterion release, but last night I watched the cult classic An American Hippie in Israel for the very first time and man, what a crazy a$$ film! The first 2 acts were actually pretty good, despite the horrendous acting and production, but the final act had me scratching my head. Why! There are some seriously outrageous/hillarious scenes in that strange movie (that came out in 1972). I guess the limited edition BD I bought (out of 2000 copies, mine was #1073) was worth the money because there are like 2.5 hours of extras. I could never see Criterion releasing a movie like this, because its such a poorly made movie that probably was featured in an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000!

Anyone else see this one?

It's so bad, its good.

lol no, EricJ simply cannot resist participating in a discussion where even the slightest hint of homosexuality as a topic could come up. Let's just say he's not too keen on the subject.
