Don't pass that up, no matter what condition the case is in.

You see, the spine still had pieces of the original shrinkwrap glued to it and this new shrinkwrap was not part of that. In any case, I got it for a good deal and I think it was the last item left in the inventory so I don't care if it was used.

Has anyone else seen this film? It really is worth checking out if you can find this DVD that is now out of print.

Good review! I haven't seen it yet was close to buying it during the last B&N sale. Looks good, I didn't know it was oop argh hopefully it's still at the store near me next month.
Was off today and bought from a local used DVD store Snake Eyes, Femme Fatale and History of Violence for 10$ all used. Snake Eyes such artful trash haha

I'm not Owl, but I'd say that the most likely ones are the early British Hitches they did on laserdisc (but not on DVD): Sabotage, Secret Agent, Young and Innocent, and Blackmail.

I know the CC release of Time Bandits is out of print, but any chance they get the rights to that new master released across the pond?

Also, I second any request for more Tarkovsky. I finally got around to watching Marketa Lazarova which was mesmerizing, now I'm craving an Andrei Rublev upgrade.

I hope some Lynch and Cronnenberg are announced for tomorrow. Not because I want them, only so I do not have to hear about them anymore. It was bad enough the months of "Where's Badlands?".

Said the same thing a couple of days ago. No matter what, though, something will replace the Cronenberg and the Lynch. They always find something else that Criterion needs to announce this month. There will always be some downer that pops his unrecognizable head in spouting out such nonsense:

"Wahh, Lynch was announced, but where is Life Aquatic?! Screw you, Criterion."

Unless there is a November release I really need, I have decided on six pickups for the B&N sale:

Badlands
M
Sweet Smell Of Success
Repo Man
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Last Temptation of Christ

M and The Royal Tenenbaums are the only ones I have seen out of those 6.

I'd like to see them change their releases just a hair.

4-5 new releases.
1-2 updated releases from the DVD library.

Personally, I'd feel a little robbed if a new release had it's spot taken by something that's already out there on Criterion DVD.

I'm right with you on that one. I have been hoping for Ghost World since I first got a blu-ray player. Every month I cross my fingers. A few years back when they revealed the Daniel Clowes Fuller covers I thought it was only a matter of time, but alas nothing yet...

With all due respect to Criterion titles like Safety Last! or The Gold Rush, I have to say that The Big Parade is the best high definition transfer of a 1920s silent film that I've seen to date.

I'm hugely impressed with this movie, and am glad that I followed my gut feeling to check it out. A great double feature night with Wings, if one has the time to squeeze both into one night.

I would like to see them focus more on contemporary films in the upcoming year. While I understand the importance of making classics widely available, I would have liked to see more than 5 films from 2000-present represented this year. While the choices were, for the most part, excellent (Naqoyqatsi being the biggest exception, but it gets a pass for being in a box with Koyaanisqatsi), they've done a fantastic job of shedding light on underseen modern films in the past and I'd like to see them return to that a little more heavily. I am very happy they brought us The Kid with a Bike this year, because I didn't see enough people talking about it upon its initial release last year.

Wow, a Michael Mann film on Criterion would blow me away. The question I have for you is, WHICH ONE?! Almost all of his best films are already on Blu-ray and most have great releases/transfers.

Thanks for responding about my post on Mafioso. I didn't give it a review but I just wanted to get it out there to see what other people thought of it. I just checked Amazon and you can get a new copy for $35-45 and used starts at $18 or so.

De Palma has made a few good films but his output is mixed in my opinion. He has more trash than treasures. I sort of compare him to Ridley Scott as both directors have made a lot of (big) films but a few of their films were terrible too.
