I bought Seconds today at Barnes & Noble.

I found out that there is a 30% off sale on all Blu-rays and DVDs including Criterions. On top of that, I had a 20% coupon I used plus the 10% members discount. I only paid $20.25 for this! So just about 50% off for me! I know, I know, I could have waited 3 more weeks until the 50% sale but I just felt good with this purchase today.

And oh, I also found Immortal Beloved (a great film with Gary Oldman) in the Blu-ray bargain bin for $12.99! This was also on my want list. I got it for $11.50 with my 10% members discount.

There's been a lot of talk about Michael Mann's Thief being released by Criterion.

I would not mind it at all, however, if Criterion were to pick up Manhunter.
Manhunter, which is based on the Thomas Harris novel, Red Dragon, was the first screen appearance of Hannibal Lector, who is played with icy brilliance by Brian Cox. Tom Noonan, however, is the most sinister presence in the film with his role as Francis Dollarhyde.

In many ways, I even prefer Manhunter to The Silence of the Lambs.

YES to the second one. We need to have the complete Alain Delon on Criterion Blu-ray. And yes to the second one as well. Fantastic Mr. Fox won't happen since the only Criterion titles that Anderson has are all from his pre-Blu-ray stage (Fantastic Mr. Fox was released after Blu-rays had already been introduced, which is why it was released on Blu-ray by 20th Century Fox).

I would personally love to see any of these announced:

Jeanne Dielman, 23, Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles
The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou
L'Eclisse
Le Samourai
Y tu mama tambien
Solo con tu pareja
(Alfonso Cuaron & Emmanul Lubezki's first feature, available on DVD)

Ok! Good thing I have a 10% off coupon for it, so that should knock off an extra $2.

Agreed completely. I would love Ghost World to get a Blu-Ray release period. Criterion doing it (hopefully with the rumored deleted scenes that didn't make it onto the original DVD) would be even better.

According to this link, Fantastic Mr. Fox is an upcoming Criterion release. Now, it's just rumors until Criterion announces it themselves, but it does make it seem more likely.

Why Criterion would even bother with Fantastic Mr. Fox is beyond me. Holds no interest for me at any level.

It's already on BluRay. Why bother putting out another release?

Beats me. I know that Criterion has been plowing through Wes Anderson's movies as blu-ray upgrades; but this one?

Eeaaaahhh!!!

They have more than one customer to cater to, even if he types in bold
FMF was one of my fav films from Wes Anderson, along with Life Aquatic. I regard it higher than some of the Wes A films that have got a Criterion release.

This has happened before, for example with some of the Universal movies (Traffic, Fear & Loathing...). Of course, given the fantastic presentation and nice supplements on the Fox release, if CC is redoing this they will have to come up with something truly special...for people other than the nerds looking for another spine number

Blu-ray was introduced in 2006. The Darjeeling Limited was released in 2007.

Why bother with Dazed and Confused, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, etc.?

Because Criterion already had DVD releases, therefore they already had extras and masters they had worked on with the directors to port over (and Brazil is a different cut than the Universal release). Fox makes zero sense considering they'd have to produce all new extras to substantially differentiate their release.

Fantastic Mr Fox is one of Wes Andersons best films and its highly entertaining. And they are going for a complete Wes Anderson release so its only natural. Aquatic life next.

Thumbs up for this!

It would have to come in some sort of fuzzy packaging and include a ton of new features for me to even consider re-buying it. The current FOX blu-ray is already fantastic.

Do you generally like Italian films from that time? I see on IMDB I rated Mafioso pretty poorly, but it's been so long since I've seen it I don't remember much from it. I am usually not a fan of the Criterion Italian films for some reason, but I did recently see Seduced and Abandoned and quite enjoyed that.
