I'm thinking the January lineup will include...
  • An exciting long-awaited film that I will probably buy on day one
  • An intriguing film that I already know deep down inside that I'm going to fork out the money to purchase, but I'll spend the next couple of months trying to talk myself out of it
  • A film that I quickly decide should be a part of my collection although I had never heard of it before the announcement
  • A film that I have no interest whatsoever in owning, but that others in the thread refuse to believe that I have not yet seen

Very true. You should be an oracle.

So this November, Barnes and Noble will have a sale on Criterion titties like last year?

Not sure where you got 36 from, considering he only ever did around 31 films. Five of his films are not available from Criterion and Ran is out of print. Madadayo can ONLY be found in the AK100, unless you can find a non-Criterion DVD. Currently on blu-ray from Criterion, only 6 of his films are available. SIX out of 31. Criterion has less Bergman in the collection, and there are 8 available on blu-ray. I do like Bergman, though, so I'm not hating. The last Kurosawa blu-ray came out November 2012, so an announcement for the next is way overdue in my opinion.

If Criterion put the time and effort into a Zatoichi, I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same for Billy Wilder.

go to the Criterion site.. then films.. advanced.. and then by director.
I didn't peruse each of the query results, but he is represented 36 times - more than any other director.

of all directors who are either unrepresented or under represented, his films are easily the most accessible and his is probably the biggest name to have next to nothing

Someone on Facebook asked them if the announcements would be tomorrow since yesterday was a holiday and Criterion said they might be. I cant understand why, Im sure that they've had the titles ready to go...but what do I know ?

Amarcord is probably the one that most people will mention in response to this, but I rather like The Double Life of Veronique.

Universal has already stated that they're working on it. It should be out next year.

It will no doubt interest those reading this thread that France's Carlotta is expanding to the US, Leos Carax's Boy Meets Girl and Mauvais Sang to be among their first titles

Ah I see. Many of those are just repeats, as in box sets, different editions, and such.
