Ah, yes!! Those are the only two Carax films I haven't seen and I was bummed when I left town before they played at one theater in Toronto back in August. Can't wait to get my hands on these.

Yep - this is great news all around. I love Carax, and I always welcome another label willing to release some more "off beat" stuff. I don't own any of Carlotta's French releases, but I've heard that they're generally top notch.

I think Mauvais Sang is awesome - I haven't seen Boy Meets Girl, but I'll happily blind buy it if they release it on BD.

I expressed similar thoughts in the Criterion poll earlier today.

I don't understand why Criterion gets the hate that it does. Being indifferent about most of the films they release is understandable, but they release a broad spectrum of styles and genres. In a catalog and large and broad as theirs, surely there's at least something for everyone. And if you don't like the company and you don't like the people who follow/enjoy Criterion releases (sheeples, apparently), why troll the thread and their forum in the first place? Why seek out the opportunity to dispense more negativity into the world?

Funny, I was just about to respond to "yojoeski" on the French New Wave post he made and now that post was deleted and he's been suspended. Well, I am going to post it anyway in response to his posting.

I agree. I find Godard's films dull too.

I know you're crying out in pain in finding an audience that agrees with you, and well, I actually do. But trying to make a point on the Criterion Facebook page is foolish at best. Don't take it too personally if the "Crapterion" moderators delete any comments against Godard. They are just keeping up with the "quality control".

- A fellow snob who dislikes Godard films too

It's rather a complicated scenario since two parties are keeping this film from getting a DVD/BR release. Firstly its all up to Michael Mann since I believe he has a veto on a DVD release of The Keep. Around eight years ago Paramount were already working on remastering the film for DVD, and were close to announcing a release date when Michael Mann stopped them. I imagine the reason Mann took this option is because the DVD would have contained only the 96 minute theatrical cut, that he has since disowned. I think Mann's original directors cut had a running time of 180 minutes.

The other reason, according to IMDB, is a plagiarism suit over a piece of music used in the film that is similar to 'The Snowman'. Don't know if this is true or not.

If you wish to post your disappointment at the lack of an announcement that is fine. If you disagree with the business model used by Criterion that is also fine. Calling the members little names is NOT fine. Thanks.

French New Wave is a lot like Bergman to me: I can appreciate what went into them, I can appreciate the impact and influence they had, I don't dislike watching them but for the most I don't particularly enjoy them either.

And to be fair to both the French New Wave and Bergman, I haven't delved all that deeply into either.

Didn't realise they'd announced their first releases already, that's excellent news! Both of these have a good shot at making my top 20 of the 80s list.

I enjoyed the Godard films up to 1965 or so. After that, his ideas, methods became...unsound.

Congratulations! That certainly takes precedence over Eyes Without a Face. Until the November sale, that is.

Who is trolling the thread? People are a little pissed there is no announcement and some are speculating\hoping for specific releases. Not seeing any trolling or "scorched earth" type posts.

You have another one here. My girlfriend studied Film at college and university, and The French New Wave, particularly Godard, is a subject that is studied time and time again. Both her and I had to endure Breathless countless of times, not to mention Une Femme Est Une Femme, Weekend, Tout Va Bien to name a few. It's a shame I never got to see his Cannon opus King Lear
