I am frightened right now.

I absolutely love Hitchcock, my top 5 works include:

1. Psycho
2. Vertigo
3. Shadow of a Doubt
4. Rear Window
5. Rebecca

And I find it far less funny today - far less funny than the average bad sitcom. When it's been on TV, I find that it doesn't keep my attention.

It's great because of who is in it and because some of the cameos were by stars who were already at the very end of their careers and we were unlikely to see them again.

I also think it's absurd to pretend that one can replicate the feeling of Cinerama, even single projector Cinerama (Ultra Panavision), at home.
You're not alone. I loved this when I saw this as a kid back in the 60s. Hadn't seen it in a long time, and picked it up on LD in the 90s, and found that while there are moments of inspired hilarity, a lot of it falls flat.

I like to think of Blow Out as a descendant of Blow Up & The Conversation. But I can definitely see the Hitchcock comparisons.

I think that, since Eyes Without a Face was released today, everyone over at Criterion is still reeling from the sheer awesomeness. Can't say that I blame them.

I purchased Eyes Without a Face today, as I posted earlier, but I'm going to wait until this weekend to watch it when I've got some relaxation time and am not tired from work.

Hrmm, Top three Hitchcock films. I think this changed for me fairly recently (my wife and I have worked through most of his available catalogue several times, but most recently for the first time in high def, and that has been AMAZING)

North By Northwest
Shadow of a Doubt
Dial M for Murder

The third slot is a little harder to fill. Vertigo has grown a lot in my estimation recently. (I used to find the last third a little too much?)

Rear Window and Rope are both tremendous films, of course. Rope used to be my second favourite. Dial M is one I have seen least, and Rope is probably the Hitchcock I've seen most... Anyway, I expect the order to move around again in the future.

I also love Torn Curtain more than most.

No, the big announcement for October 15 is that I picked up I Married a Witch for $8, thanks to some random free points from Sears of all places.

That's a tough one, but I will go with...

Shadow of a Doubt
(because it is great in every way)
Rear Window (not only is it great, but the scene where Grace Kelly walks into the room in her green dress...yowza!)
Vertigo (because why not?)

Vertigo
Notorious

...and then...

Lady Vanishes or Dial M for Murder or Read Window depending on my mood!

It's a prime example of "let's do the biggest, funniest, comedy ever!" and then proceed to do the big; but not the funny. It's a great film to spot the cameo just as Around the World in Eighty Days was but beyond that.... Example:I've read where people just go on and on about Jonathan Winters going berserk scene and that it's one of the funniest scenes ever and I just find it to be forced and, frankly, anything but funny. It made me wonder just what a real physical comic could have done with it-Keaton for example. Maybe the worst thing the film did was spawn a whole bunch of wannabes like The Great Race (don't get me started on the pie fight-another biggest, funniest)

I just finished Pickpocket and I thought that it was just alright. Had it not been for the five minutes of hilarious pickpocketing going on midway through the film, I don't think that I would have enjoyed it the little bit that I did.

It's true. There have been web reports by people involved doing extras for the release (specifically, a map of all the locations in the film). "When asked if there's anything else he might add, Dave said, "Criterion has hired me to create a map of locations for their box set release of this movie."

http://www.cinemaretro.com/index.php...ELRY-LINE.html

They wanted to have it out in Nov for the 50th Anniversary, but they pushed it back to make more extras.

The current release looks amazing, but this one will (most likely) be the longer, roadshow version that's missing from the MGM release.

I think I like Pickpocket more than A Man Escaped. Were you not a fan of the performances?

Pretty much these.
SoaD because, I think, Joseph Cotton was one of the most underrated actors and here he gets a chance to shine.
RW agree-when Grace approaches the camera/Stewart. Although I must say as many times as he keeps pushing her away with his "two different worlds" speeches I just want to jump into the scene and, at least, break his other leg.
V if for no other reason the Bernard Herrmann score and that almost psychedelic sequence with Stewart's head.
After these: Psycho, Lifeboat, and The Birds would be my next choices.
