I enjoyed the Holy Motors experience, but not enough to watch it again.

I definately think it is worth a view but I would not recommend it as a blind buy. Not too ruin anything but it does not follow any sort of narative and in my opinion, is more arty in its execusion. I do not mean to make this sound negative. I admire it on one hand, but it is not for me personally, but it is worth a rental\download at least (if you like film which I know that you do )

Definitely rent it before buying. Holy Motors is the definition of polarizing.

Hear, hear. Hitchcock is the master, but De Palma is the showman. The homages De Palma made, especially Dressed To Kill and Blow Out pale in comparison to Hitchcock's best work, but they are very watchable and should not be dismissed.

Whilst on the subject, my favorite Hitchcock films are:

1. Vertigo
2. North by Northwest
3. The Birds

Sorry but whilst Psycho has its merits, I'd still choose Michael Powell's Peeping Tom over Hitchcock's film any day.

You're not alone pal, I can't get involved in any of his films, period.

It's one of my favorites, so I can't recommend it enough. Although, not many people like it for some reason.

I liked it a lot as well, and found myself wanting to rewatch it as soon as I finished it. I don't rewatch a lot of stuff but I think this is a film that I'll keep coming back to periodically.

Well I think there are lots of reasons why people are not a fan of it (and these may be reasons why some people like yourself do like it). I respect it for what it did, which to me, is a loveletter to cinema, however to me that is not enough. The concept was "neat" and I appreciate it but that is it. it was certainly a well made film though. I just wish it through us a bone to
[Show spoiler]try to put the pieces of the puzzle together ala Mullholland Drive or on a much smaller scale, Certified Copy. There was just nothing there to unravel though or put together which was likely the point, but not my cup of tea.

I'll probably pick up Anatomy of a Murder during the sale. I watched it on TCM a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It's a very well done courtroom movie that kept me involved throughout. Jimmy Stewart is at his best.

Favorite Hitchcock:

1. The 39 Steps
2. Notorious
3. North by Northwest / Vertigo

I liked that even the people I knew who hated Holy Motors still acknowledged how great the
[Show spoiler]accordion
scene was and put it up with the top movie moments of that year.

I must say, I too missed the boat on Holy Motors. I was majorly disappointed.

It's owned by iTV, so a Criterion release could happen. They have already released The 39 Steps, The Lady Vanishes, and The Man Who Knew Too Much '34 licensed from them. iTV also owns The Pleasure Garden, The Lodger, Easy Virtue, Downhill, Secret Agent, Sabotage, Young and Innocent, and some rights to Jamaica Inn (US rights are with Cohen).

StudioCanal owns the rest of his British films, including Blackmail.

I'm really hoping that somebody - anybody - is working on a BD release of the "Hitchcock 9" that recently toured across the UK and the US.

With a few exceptions (The Lodger, Blackmail), they're mostly "minor" Hitchcock - but I'd love to be able to see high quality prints of them as opposed to the horrible public domain copies I've watched.

Criterion have a few Hitchcock titles on Amazon Instant:

I enthusiastically recommend Anatomy of a Murder on Blu-ray. The movie flies by at lightning pace despite its length, and it's fun to watch simply for the sheer acting talent involved. The transfer is spot-on amazing as well.

Hitchcock is also my favorite director and my top 3 is the same as 'the sordid sentinel.'

Vertigo - the score, the use of color, San Francisco, the cinematography, the plot twists, and the fact that an hour and a half into the film, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THE STORY IS GOING yet it still manages to end spectacularly even after all that has come before it... oh, and did I mention the score? The best ever, IMO. Also, if you have ever had an unhealthy attraction towards somebody (unfortunately, I have) that resonates, too.

North By Northwest is just an exciting movie start to finish. Great entertainment value.

Notorious -
[Show spoiler] Cary Grant escorting Ingrid out of the house with Claude Raines in equal need to get the heck out of there.. then Cary's last line, "that's your problem." Chills, man, chills... absolutely awesome!
