+1 absolutely phenomenal looking blu-ray. The Trouble With Harry and To Catch a Thief both have just sick transfers.. gorgeous. made me love both of those films more so than they probably deserve. both good films, don't get me wrong

I purchased Eyes Without a Face today, as I posted earlier, but I'm going to wait until this weekend to watch it when I've got some relaxation time and am not tired from work.
I picked it up as well, along with The Earrings of Madame de... and Repo Man.

I forgot that there was a Columbus Day Holiday in there being Tuesday and all. Our schools down here don't even get off for that holiday like we did up north.

Oh well...another "productive" day waiting for the announcements. Thanks Crapterion! lol

On another note, since I just moved to this area, the B&N store near my job has tons of Olive and Scream Factory BDs! I find that pretty cool!

And on a similar other side note, the Scream Factory deal today includes Q: The Winged Serpent for 11.99. I saw it as a kid, and was always drawn to the VHS cover at my local mom and pop video store where I grew up.

I'd be interested to know which other color films from the 50's (not just Hitchcock) have awesome blu-ray transfers like The Trouble with Harry or To Catch a Thief. Anybody??

The ability to see these older films like this is why I'm in love w/ the format.

I think Charade is a good one (though slightly outside the margins of the 50s), and it also has that Hitchcock vibe. The Criterion edition is gorgeous.

Damn! I should stop reading this thread. So many recommendations it's hard to narrow down a list for the sale!

I remember seeing the TV trailer for Q: The Winged Serpent when I was a kid and thinking that it looked like the greatest movie in the entire history of movies.

When I finally had a chance to rent this movie during my teenage years, I realized that it was not quite the greatest movie in the entire history of movies. It's not a bad movie, and it's actually more interesting than one would think, given the premise, but I was still left disappointed. My childhood imagination had built up so many wondrously destructive possibilities after seeing that TV trailer, and there was simply no way that the movie could have delivered.

Here's a fun thought, along the same lines...

How awesomely awesome would it be if Criterion were to announce Dragonslayer (1981) today?
(There is a zero percent chance of this happening, but let me at least enjoy the thought for a few hours, y'all.)

Well, I work near Raleigh, NC, so the B&N in Raleigh is pretty stocked. Both the one where I moved from and the one near my new home are not so good as far as selection goes.

I remember when I was interviewing for jobs here over the summer, the young woman who works in the media department said that they constantly have Tuesday morning shoppers picking up the latest Criterion titles. She also said they have a big problem with Criterion theft. At $40 a pop, I can't imagine why. It seems as though these individuals need to be introduced to the $8 off $40 coupon and the B&N 50% off sale.

EDIT: I just noticed that you live in NC too...whereabouts?

The mask is like a blank canvas-no expression. You're left with only the eyes of Edith Scob to let you know her pain, frustration, sadness, etc. Hence the title-Eyes Without a Face. It's a wonderful performance from her.

For the last six years, we used to live over in that area. We spent 2007-2013 in Hickory. Charlotte had some good B&Ns!

We usually make at least one trip to the B&N near South Park mall during the sales. The one that is nearest to us, in Huntersville, has a pretty nice Criterion selection, so I usually get all I need there.

I don't believe I've ever been to the one near South Park Mall...but my sister in law lives in Huntersville. I like that Mooresville/Huntersville area.

I'm just north of Atlanta, and I've been up that way a great many times. I ran a race near Raleigh back in April. Here's to Criterion fans in the Southeast.

What a fantastic movie that was. It seems so simple on the surface, yet it is one of the most elegant and engrossing things I've seen.
