Off-topic of what has been talked about the past couple pages, but on topic of the thread,

2 films I would love Criterion to release is Dennis Hopper's Colors and Out of the Blue. Colors is an MGM title, but I doubt they got it in the deal with them.

Colors is a fine film and worthy of a Criterion release.

There are 6 different films titles Out of the Blue according to wikipedia. Which one are you referring to? I'm guessing the Dennis Hopper one.

Out of the Blue (1947 film), a film directed by Leigh Jason
Out of the Blue (1980 film), a film featuring and directed by Dennis Hopper
Out of the Blue (2002 film), a documentary on the UFO phenomenon
Out of the Blue (2006 film), a film based on the Aramoana massacre
Out of the Blue (1931 film), a film starring Jessie Matthews
Out of the Blue (1991 film), a British television film starring Colin Firth

Yeah, the Dennis Hopper one. Dennis Hopper has to be the most underrated director in American history. Criterion needs to jump on his films.

Just want to share a strange experience I had today. I went to a local Fedex office to print the awesome customized Benjamin Button cover made by reallyagi. The guy who printed it out refused to give it to me because he claims it violated the copyright law! He claims the images used in the cover belongs to Paramount Pictures so I can't print it, even for personal use.

The employee was correct. Paramount owns "the right to copy" the specific picture(s) in question.

So did blu-ray.com break the copyright law by using all the cover images and screen captures on their site? They didn't ask for permission for every one of them, did they?

You would have to ask the owners of this site for those answers.

If you want to have your own custom covers, they need to be original artwork, or you need to have written permission from the owners of the pictures, if you are going to go to Kinkos or the like.

Just because we own a BD, that does not mean we own the copying rights of the BD, whether it be the cover art pictures or anything else related to said BD. Those specific rights stay with the copyright holder.

This thread is not a legal issue thread, so I am going to leave my comments where they are. Don't want people getting upset that the thread has been derailed.

I finally watched and completed the Fanny och Alexander TV series... and definitely enjoyed it.

After seeing the SFI Blu-ray screen captures compared to the Criterion DVD, I can only hope Criterion Collection considers this for release.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they do. Hopefully include both the TV and film in one set. That would be wonderful.

I watched "Ride with the Devil" tonight. I was very pleased with the PQ and AQ. I worthwhile purchase, in my opinion.

Along with "Stagecoach," I think "Wings of Desire" is going to be my next Criterion purchase.

Frank (in Blue Velvet) is one of the greatest movie villains ever. He also did an awesome job along with Brando in thier limited screen time in Apocalypse Now.

Aocalypse Now is 100% awesome, but I was just talking about his films as a director. Dennis Hopper is one hell of an artist. Photographer, actor, director, painter, poet, etc.

I have a feeling this is a definite lock as it's likely one of their best sellers and definitely a flagship title. It's the kind of movie (or box set, because you'd be nuts not to get the box set) that you run out and buy and cherish having. I swear to God that film is on a level of its own when it comes to that warm, fuzzy "this movie is GREAT" feeling.

I went into Wings of Desire not expecting it to really do much for me. It ended up being one of my favorite Criterions. Hope you like it.

WOD is one of the best films the Criterion label has ever or will ever have the privilege of showcasing.

It's strange that Celine and Julie Go Boating (Rivette) was never released on DVD in R1 by anyone.

I believe I read (and again, this is not my field, perhaps Pro-B could provide more insight) that Blu-ray.com has an ongoing agreement in regards to screenshots (and sometimes, like in the case of LOTR etc, specific instructions are given)

There is a reason one movie may only have 5 screenshots up, and something else may have 15..... people say "why did this catalog dramedy get 15 screenshots, when this big summer blockbuster only get 5?" and that would be the reason...... Blu-ray.com provides as many screenshots as we are authorized to use.......

I believe the packaging photos are separate from that, which is nice, so we are seeing those included more and more.....
