I usually like their covers, but thought the one for Thief wasn't that great. Any of the other contenders would've been better (IMO).

#3 for the unused batch would be my choice.

In my opinion the one they went with capture that time and its look better. The three discarded options may be more aesthetically pleasing but I also find them to be much more nondescript.

In other words I'm a happy camper

This.

The Thief cover that Criterion is using has the 1980s look that suits the feature. The alternate covers look too much like David Fincher films.

I like them all!

Still happy with the one they went with, though.

Ummm. No. They fit perfectly with the look of the film. any similarities between these and The Game cover is purely incidental.

The actual cover for Thief looks great for 1980s Michael Mann, and it suits the trailers of the film that I've seen. I like the original font look of the title as well.

The alternate covers look like Michael Mann material, but they look like 1990s - early 2000s Michael Mann movies.

I'm thinking that Thief and Walter Hill's The Driver will make a fun double feature night.

I'm sorry, was there something about loving every decision Criterion makes in the Blu-ray.com User Agreement?

I just scrolled to the bottom and clicked the little box so maybe there is, I don't know.

Totally unrelated to anything, but y'all should check out the From Here to Eternity Blu-ray. I've fallen in love with Donna Reed several hundred times over since yesterday.

I just finished watching Stalag 17, so tomorrow night belongs to the Criterion Blu-ray of Eyes Without a Face. Woo hoo!

On top of that they're still making separate DVD versions. I don't get it.

Adding DVD's just cheapens bluray imo. Especially from Criterion. Let. It. Go.

The shower of sparks is particularly fitting as well as extremely cool.

The actual cover is pretty cool too though.

Seeing all this talk about Thief makes me realize I'm not alone in disliking the score.

Hey, my brother's favorite band is Coldplay, so he's in no position to diss the mighty Tangerine Dream. You are joining a chorus of losers (I kid, I kid).

Did you appreciate the rest of the film, though?

I love the film. It's my favorite Mann, though a rewatch of The Insider is in order, as is a viewing of Miami Vice.

I'm hoping the score works for me when I watch the blu.

The nostalgia bug hit me a few minutes ago, and I looked up the Michael Mann-produced 1980s gem, Band of the Hand.

Not exactly Criterion fare. Well, totally not Criterion fare. It was a fun movie for its time, though.

They look like this Mann movie to me:

But I'm being nitpicky. This would actually go well with Pain & Gain, and other movies about the myth of the American dream.
