Antonioni doesn't make me consider where the scenes are located.

I just watched the trailer for It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World for the first time, and it looks like a real trip.

My January priorities are Rififi and Thief, and I'll be snatching up Throne of Blood shortly after, but I might check out It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World at a later sale date, though.

One of these days, I'm going to pull the trigger on Michael Mann's Miami Vice. I would not mind seeing that movie again.

Miami Vice is a terrible movie. It is one of Michael Mann's worst efforts to date. It's only an "art-house film disguised as a Hollywood blockbuster" if you equate art-house filmmaking to pretentiousness with no plot, character development, and substance. The entire movie feels like you are watching random clips of them doing some 'side-job' while taking a vacation during the filming (this goes for the actors as well as Mann).

I should see the trailer too. 191 minutes of silliness sounds straight up my alley.

I thought you owned the Miami Vice BD?

I used to own the DVD, until the big 2009 flood that destroyed a lot of stuff at my old apartment. The Unrated Director's Cut was my favorite, because it was more in line with the old TV show.

Did you ever get to listen to the commentary track? Mann's attention to detail is really out of this world. He aims for maximum realism (this taken to an extreme in Public Enemies) & considers every little element that goes into the production. So far as calculating the amount of gas the Mojo needs for the trip to Cuba.

No, I do like Antonioni. I think comparing Mann to Antonioni is ridiculous.

While these are all good movies (excluding Miami Vice) I don't feel the need to own any of these. Again, this is just me limiting my purchases to movies I'll watch more than once a year.

I see it in Miami Vice. It's all in the way both directors employ high contrast imagery. The scenes in Havana between Isabella & Sonny epitomize this. Further, I definitely see Crockett as almost a lost Antonioni character.

I still haven't seen a single film by Mann that I consider a masterpiece. Collateral is very overrated, IMO. I expected to love it and left my viewing fairly disappointed.

Heat was pretty great but I also felt it was missing something. It didn't feel as intelligent as other heist films.

Public Enemies is my favorite film by him. Certain scenes in it felt extremely visceral and I think it's a great era film. Marion Cotilliard.

I hope by Blind buying Thief it will change my mind by him.

Slightly OT, but what's everyone think of the trailer for the new Wes Anderson movie? I think it looks great!

Preordered The Uninvited for $19.99 from Amazon. Was going to buy this anyway but the lower price makes it a sweeter deal.

The more I think I think about it, the happier I am that Michael Bay is part of the collection. I would totally buy the Armageddon upgrade. (Yes, as an engineer I know it totally disregards the laws of physics)

Not B&N.com, B&N. Person lives in NY. Should be physical stores around. Besides, both websites offer free shipping for a product at that price if you pay for the membership (Of which B&N's is a 3rd of the price).

I suppose I could wait a couple of weeks and hope that my B&N carries it but if I factor in taxes and subway fare to and from the store it could actually end up costing more. Plus I'd like to see this for the first time on Halloween night .

BTW, I don't think I've ever paid less than $19.99 for any Criterion BD even after a sale. Is there a particular reason why this title will be $15?
