I saw this about 20 years ago, and would love to catch it again. My brother and I used to watch Bogart movies on TBS Superstation back in the day.

Incidentally, I just found out that the UK Blu-ray of Sabrina is Region Free. Billy Wilder directing Humphrey Bogart. I've got to get on that. I'll be ordering it in the not-too-distant future.

EDIT: Done! $17.00 from Amazon UK, including shipping.

I really need to establish some parameters for the "not-too-distant future" designation.

I was FINALLY going to watch Heaven's Gate last night but then I was intimidated yet again by the 216 minutes of running time (realizing it was too late at night to start the movie!). This is what always happens. I always forget that this film is nearly 4 hours in length! I cannot wait to let you know my feedback as you PM'ed me a while ago (maybe months its been?) regarding my opinion on this movie. You'll be the first to know my opinion, rest assured.

So I watched Chinatown last night for the first time in my life!

Is anyone here amazed besides me?

I mean, one of the greatest films of all time and I hadn't seen it until last night. But wow, WHAT A MOVIE! I bought it at Barnes & Noble for $8 + tax (using a 25% coupon + it was 40% off!). Not a bad deal for a brand new blu-ray copy of Chinatown!

Chinatown is amazing. I snagged the Steelbook for about $11 (I think) when Wal-Mart had their rows of Steelbooks a few months back. The sequel is pretty good too, but it's a shame they never made the 3rd movie.

Chinatown is on its way to my doorstep, and I'm hoping that it will be here by the time I get back from an out-of-town trip this weekend.

After I found out that it was 50% off, I checked and found that no copies were available in the stores, so I placed an order. Free shipping for B&N members is a nice touch.

Chinatown is incredible, no doubt. One of my all time faves. Hopefully the ending wasn't spoiled for you beforehand. That absolutely stunned me way back when. Very bleak to put it mildly. Polanski's cameo may be the best ever. The price you paid is a steal.

I don't mind if they do or not.

On the subject of La Notte, my copy (which I've had pre-ordered since July 19), just shipped tonight...and I have Prime!

I'm going to try to watch L'Avventura tomorrow and then La Notte when it comes tomorrow (hopefully) or Thursday.

Forget about critiquing the covers. Let's critique the pictures of the covers.

I actually suggest you consider watching Heaven's Gate like a 4-hour miniseries. Maybe just watch an hour each night. I like the film a fair amount, even with its flaws, but I think smaller bites help for me....

You'd be surprised how you are held captive for it's 5 1/2 hour run time.
What are your thoughts on Assayas' music choices? The use of The Feelies' Loveless Love is one of my favorite uses of music in any film ever.

Some are pretty cheesy, but the one for Eyes Without A Face was really cool.

I must politely disagree. I am a huge fan of the movie and I think it works best all in one shot.

Thanks for that, Sammy. I've been busy studying this month, so I haven't been on the boards as much.

Love his style or hate it, you can't deny that Mann gets what he wants and considers every detail in the production.

Yes, what a film! A masterpiece that had my jaw on the floor at that ending!

I'm a Sahara fan. I first saw it years ago and watch it whenever I learn it's on TCM. Bogart is really good in the role. I sometimes wish there'd be a remake, but I don't know who could play the role as he did. Bogart was unique. In any event, if it came out on blu-ray, especially Criterion, I'd add it to my collection.

Agreed. The other way, the roller skate scene would take up one whole night!
