Perhaps if you articulate what you found lacking in Red Desert? La Notte is not hugely different in its tone and treatment of characters.

I can't even put into words how much I enjoyed Exotica when I watched it a few months ago.

Yeah I enjoy Exotica too....whenever the Leonard Cohen song plays. It needed more footage of Mia Kirshner dancing to "Everybody Knows".

Speaking of Leonard Cohen: Pump up The Volume would be another dream Criterion spine.

I'm down with another Lloyd film. Dr. Jack was only okay, but I loved Safety Last!.

White Heat is pretty amazing. This one goes to the top-tier ranking of film noir movies in my collection, and it has a safe place on my all-time top 50 list.

I'm pretty sure that Michael Mann was paying attention to White Heat when he filmed Heat. There are so many parallels between these two. I wonder how much of Ashley Judd's character in the Mann film was based off of Virginia Mayo's character in the earlier film.

I'm immensely pleased with the Ultimate Gangsters Collection: Classics box set, because these are all near-flawless films , and each subsequent film is even better than the last.

It goes without saying that White Heat got me to thinking about January's Criterion double excellence with Rififi and Thief. Bring it!

Good call. I would not mind seeing Pump Up the Volume again. My college friends and I used to watch it all of the time during the early 1990s. I love the UK Surf version of Pixies - "Wave of Mutilation" in this film.

A question for you Criterion fanatics:

What do you think is the worst - or if you prefer, your least favorite - movie in the catalog that's available on Blu-ray?

Lena Dunham is a talentless hipster who will fade into obscurity once Girls gets cancelled.

I think you got it backwards, since we're talking absolutes here.

Apparently most of Gilliam's films I've yet to see, but Brazil and 12 Monkeys are his best (aside from Holy Grail, of course), and are both quite good.

As for the others, I've seem: Time Bandits is tolerable, perhaps a bit overlong; Fear And Loathing had a few moments that were decent fun, but for the most part it was just plain tedious (will revisit on blu some day).

Guess I've missed out on all the rest (aside from Meaning Of Life, which was okay); Fisher King I suppose I will get to sooner or later.

I caught it on TCM a while back and didn't really care for it. And yeah, that was a little surprising because it sounded very much to my tastes.

The Great Dictator, Modern Times and Gold Rush didn't do a lot for me either. I collect AFI 100 titles so I'll grab City Lights at some point too and who knows, I might warm up to him at some point. It wouldn't be the first time I went back to something and just had it click the second or third time around.

Early Hitchcock is a really good example of that. I've really grown to appreciate The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps a lot more than I used to.

I would have to say that would be Che, because its such a tedious film and I doubt I'll be able to watch it again.

House is the worst....and it isn't even close folks. A regrettable purchase. STAY AWAY !! You've been duly warned.

Now that's just crazy talk. HOUSE was one of my favorite blind buys!

For disappointing and least-favorite Criterions, I'd certainly list Godard's WEEKEND and Andrea Arnold's FISH TANK, which I could still appreciate but was vastly underwhelmed with after the heavily positive reviews I'd read. SECRET OF THE GRAIN and BOTTLE ROCKET were two other blind buys I was greatly disappointed by and ZAZIE DANS LE METRO is another I was expecting to be much better. And while certainly impressive dramatically, I can't say that KES is a film I particularly enjoyed or look forward to rewatching, despite (and possibly because of) the "best British film of the century" rating it had received.

Nevertheless, I'm glad I got to see all of them, especially for the first time with Criterion's Blu-ray quality!

I love House, though i am always drawn to most bizarre films. Actually saw it way before Criterion put it out and was thrilled to buy it as soon as possible. Still considering upgrading to BD

I borrowed House from the library yesterday and was going to pop the movie into my BD player tonight!

I have a feeling I'll either love or hate this film.

Looking forward to seeing this movie finally.
