They are fake. Instead of making smart remarks back to me, think of a time Criterion actually done this. Then think of a time Amazon has put up false pre-orders, with misspelled titles.
I am not pre-ordering any of the films. What I am saying is that if it is fake, you will be happy. Am I wrong?

The thing is if you look at the comments on the front page's listing of this mess, you can see people still complaining about the lack of Wes Anderson even with this pre-order (which is still fake). It seems like they want all Wes Anderson, all the time, and that is why I find it funny when it doesn't go their way, because I think I know the way this company works by collecting from them for a long long time. "Oh Darjeeling pre-order, now Criterion we need more Anderson than this!" type of crap.

But really I could care less if they come out or not. Just for the people pre-ordering the Darjeeling Express, I am just saying these look fake, since there isn't even a movie named that.

I agree, there are many more films out there that need to be brought to BD and frankly, the Anderson films are more cult classics to me. But you have to understand that these are popular films that will make CC money, which in turn, gives them more buying power to search out more 'films'. The 'masses' want these films and will spend $30+ on them no problem, that is a good thing, not an inconvenience. Anyways, the 'smart' remark comment was funny coming from you, considering you are the king of them when it comes to the constant Seven Samurai inquiries, so touche'

Not pre-ordering any of these yet...but if they all come out, I'll be in for all 5.

Agreed. I have yet to watch an Anderson movie that I actually enjoyed, but if it means Criterion will get the funds to release even more movies, I don't care if they release the entire Anderson catalog.

Is it your job to come on here and bash people's taste in movies? Cause I only check this thread out every now and then, but sure enough, every time, there you are trying to degrade people because of a movie/director they enjoy. Who the hell cares if someone like Wes Anderson a lot? Every film speaks to people differently. Just because a lot of people enjoy Wes Anderson doesn't make his films less important.

And I am sorry for the way I talk. I am who I am. Some people like it and get it, some people, well, I could care less about those.

Also, I am just doubting these "pre-orders". I know 3 of these are coming for a fact. Darjeeling Limited could very well been picked up by Criterion, but don't you think they would of hinted us it like Thin Red Line a while back since it's such a "big name" title for consumers to get worked up about. I just don't know why it would come out like this is all I am saying.

I would like to have The Thin Red Line but I have a nice dvd transfer of it sitting in my collection right now, so it's not a need. But I'll just say pre-order away for the ones who don't care what I got to say. I'm not saying they are not coming, I just don't know why someone would pre-order a Darjeeling Express, I would just wait and see the Darjeeling Limited announced.

1st, I like to say, those pre-orders look like some dude on Amazon put the most mainstream movies you can find in the collection on pre-order and added a Wes Anderson movie that has never been rumored to even touch Criterion's hands.

2nd, just like the "pre-orders" for Amazon's Punch-Drunk Love and Chinatown, where are those at again?

I don't know why these were posted on the frontpage to be honest. Yes, I prob won't buy any of them (maybe the Thin Red Line) but I wouldn't be surprised by them coming out, I just think those are fake.
I'm quite surprised by this post, as I'm really not sure how you came to this conclusion. Traditionally, an Amazon pre-order means an actual product is coming. Yes, placeholders are no indication of whether a title is coming or not, but when a pre-order with a price goes up? That's quite a different story. In all but a trivial handful of situations, an Amazon pre-order has led to a real product announcement, and normally fairly quickly.

The only two examples I can think of that have not come to fruition are Taxi Driver and Punch-Drunk Love. Both are from Sony, which indicates to me that they are having some trouble with how they communicate with retailers. And premature Taxi Driver listings have shown up not just at Amazon, but also at Walmart and other online retailers, further placing the blame on Sony themselves. And for Punch-Drunk Love, Sony definitely seems to have (or at least had) that title in the works - it was mentioned in a Sony-distributed press release extolling the virtues of their BD Trivia+ or whatever interactive software! You mention Chinatown as another example, but there has never been a pre-ordable Chinatown Blu-ray at Amazon, so that doesn't help your case either.

Amazon does make spelling and title mistakes from time to time, so I don't think 'The Darjeeling Express' wipes away any significant legitimacy from these preorders. Given their track record, I think it is VERY reasonable to take these preorders as signs of impending announcements. Definite? No, of course not - nothing is ever definite, even official releases from the studios themselves. But should this be greeted with the over-the-top skepticism you have expressed? I certainly don't think so.

You know, Darjeeling could be a dvd only release. I could see Amazon messing that up.

I am not wanting to put skepticism on the movies, just the pre-orders. Criterion has NEVER done this, so I was just trying to help people out before they get all happy over something that has never happened before. But I see I am not helping out, just bringing out fanboys to bash me back so this all can be deleted in an hour.

If a Godard movie was announced like this, I would put skepticism on it as well, since I want his movies and don't think that is the way Criterion announces them, not jump up and down acting crazy.

Well I'm not trying to bash you, I was just explaining how Amazon has traditionally worked in past scenarios like this. Your opinions on the movies is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned.

CG, you are right, they have never done it like this, but with all the success the BD titles are getting, maybe they are changing their ways a little to start a buzz. Its all speculation and pre-ordering doesn't cost anything, so lets drop it.

I got ya, and no fighting from me either. As I said, I could care less if these movies come out or not (just like every other living person has opinions on things and movies), just thought I slowed the brakes on something I am not so sure about. But end of it from me. I see where I screwed up about this.

I'm curious which cover art will be used for the Seven Samurai blu-ray.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind using the re-issue's cover again. Just don't use the cover from the 1999 edition.

Speaking of "The Darjeeling Limited", I saw it at Big Lots for $3...I figured what the heck, might as well give it a try.

Seems like Amazon hacked Criterion's release lists, because Stanley Donen's "Charade" is up too. Is there any foreign movies coming out by Criterion the rest of the year, or has Amazon not found those?

Here's two examples of what I'm talking about:

"The people that call me cynical is funny. I know I am in no man's land here with all of these zombies walking around with their Star Wars shirts on...'

"The thing is if you look at the comments on the front page's listing of this mess, you can see people still complaining about the lack of Wes Anderson even with this pre-order (which is still fake). Perhaps it's not "attacking", but I really don't understand what it is you're trying to do. I'm not looking to start anything with anybody, it's just that most of your comments are so over the top/elitist/lame I feel the need to say something. And judging from what I've seen, I'm not the only one.
