Drug War is a very good example of Co-production film (Mainland China and Hong Kong), since this is exceptionally good. Many Co-production films are rubbish (due to filmmakers always want to please both HK and China audiences but ended up failing to make a good film), and Hong Kong people generally dislike co-production films (i'm from HK). Speaking of Johnnie To, I am going to meet him tomorrow! there's a new documentary film on him, and he will come after the screening! |

Thank you for you feedback. I own a lot of Criterions but, as you can see, no Bergmans. I know it's blasphemous, but I haven't really cared for the several films of his I've seen, for whatever reason. Fanny appeals to me, as I really enjoy dense family oriented dramas.

Not knowing your tastes I'd Recommend The Three Colors Trilogy. If you liked Seven Samurai and Rashomon:Yojimbo is consistently ranked as one of Kurosawa's best and many consider a must have. Another Kurosawa is High and Low. If you liked Wages of Fear get the other Clouzot title Diabolique Have yet to watch Eye's without a face, but To Be and Not to Be is hilarious and a great movie. Fanny and Alexander is a pretty long drama, but once it gets going it is fascinating and pulls you in. Depending on your tastes I'd say you can't go wrong with the first one. As for my two favs, I'd say The Thin Red Line and Rushmore. I think I'm going for The Game as someone mentioned. I have seen Finchers other works and I'm sure this won't disappoint. |

I think it's pretty good at rewatchability. I've only seen it once a few months ago for the first time and couldn't wait to get the blu during the B&N sale. Gonna pop it in tonight...when it's dark and windy out. I think the more one sees it, the more one will appreciate Edith's performance, the sadness and subtlety. Also the haunting score and just ethereal way Edith floats about the house, alone and solemn. She's in her own world, and it seems we become sucked into it. There's a poetry about the film that is hypnotizing I think (along with flashes of horror)

Good catch. If you want both Bergmans get Autumn Sonata. Have yet to hear any impressions about it.

It's a little...unpolished at times (not that that's necessarily a bad thing) and it shows its age a little but overall it holds up extremely well. |

By the way, in your "Top unannounced domestic blu wants" sig... "10) To Catch a Thief" Assuming you're talking about the Hitchcock film, it's already out on Blu. Been out for about a year and a half. |

Thank you. Embarrassingly enough, I actually own it on blu I just don't post very frequently anymore, so I didn't even notice it was still on there. I'll probably replace it with A Matter of Life and Death.

If you had a choice, would you pick the original 3:10 to Yuma or the remake? I've seen the remake and they did a great job. Haven't seen the original though.
