The film is vastly superior, in my opinion, to the other 1932 island-set Criterion film, Island of Lost Souls. Definitely check it out if you guys can!
A perfect companion film for King Kong since it uses some of the same sets, crew and cast. The Criterion dvd is a bit light on extras but does have a very informative commentary track. It's an excellent film that packs a lot in a short running time. I only wish that the original cut still existed.

$56.24 = AFTER 10% MEMBER DISCOUNT
$45.00 = AFTER 20% COUPON

$5 OFF $50 COUPON applied at this point if you have $50 or more in purchases. And that's provided they don't follow coupon restrictions to the letter (no other coupons can be used in conjunction unless from the welcome packet).

That being said, it never hurts to dump the coupons on the counter and see what happens. After all, stevenelliott got it to work in Texas.
Yes, this is correct. Just buy another Criterion and then you can use the $5 off $50!

The 'Investigations Of a Citizen Above Suspicion' review really makes me want to get this movie. It got 5/5 on everything.

I dunno, it left me somewhat underwhelmed when I watched it. The premise was interesting, though. Ennio Morricone's score was also great.

They're all fantastic movies. Classic, must-sees of American independent cinema.

That said, they're not blind buys IMO.

If you can borrow a copy of Shadows, try that one first.

I have actually never seen a King Kong film!

I need to get on that, especially since I own the 1933 and 2005 versions.

Yeah, Cassavetes' style takes some getting used to but ultimately it's very rewarding. I found his films to be almost brutally honest and raw - they pull no punches in portraying people as they really are, warts and all.

the original is the classic, the remake a major letdown imo. indeed you should watch the original right away, it's awesome. i'd love to get my hands on one of the original criterion laser disc copies

The 1933 original version of King Kong is one of my all-time top ten films. It's still one of the best-paced films ever made, and it's one of the best, if not the best, depictions of unrequited love in movies. I've seen this film in every format imaginable, from late night television to VHS to DVD to a 2012 theater screening, and, finally, to Blu-ray. The current Blu-ray is outstanding in every way, and I never imagined to see this much detail in the film.

The Criterion DVD of The Most Dangerous Game is a good presentation of a brilliant film, and I have been meaning to buy the Flicker Alley Blu-ray. The price for the Blu-ray never drops, but I'll probably pull the trigger soon anyway.

"A" King Kong film? As in, there's more than one (not counting the Godzllla)?

Oh. That one.
(For a while, sounded like you thought there was one back in 1976.)

I'm not sure I'd put it in my Top Ten, but it's #1 in my list of Best Fantasy films.

Or #2 on the days when I think The Wizard of Oz should be #1.

I have to say it: since you don't include Betamax or LD, you can't say "every format imaginable".

There was another one in 1962: King Kong vs. Godzilla

And another in 1986: King Kong Lives

Is Criterion's Blu of NIGHT OF THE HUNTER discontinued already? It's listed in this week's MMM list. Must be a mistake?

It's probably going to get new non-digipak packaging.

Prices went through the roof overnight it seems. Last week it was the standard $23-$25 on Amazon.

Hopefully it's a temp increase due to people thinking it's OOP, otherwise I waited too long to buy it.

What is the MMM list?
