Ditto here, followed by Bad Santa on Black Friday. I can't believe how regimented I am with my movie viewing. Don't know if that is good or bad.

You're quite right. I love Keaton, quite like Lloyd but never liked Chaplin. My 91 year old Father-in-law is a movie buff and has a huge collection of VHS tapes of Chaplin films that he carefully recorded and labelled in the 1980s and early 1990s. I have watched them with him a few times but Gold Rush apart, I could not bear the rest, especially Modern Times and City Lights. Chaplin comes across as too self-indulgent for my tastes and although that approach was to some extent inevitable for the Silent era, IMO CC overdoes it.

I like to watch The Apartment between Christmas and New Years! New Years is just a small part of the film, but there always seems to be a lull after Christmas and it is best filled by The Apartment!

I ordered The Apartment and The Seven Year Itch from that big FoxConnect 50% off sale, so they should be arriving at my doorstep at some point.

I've been on a big Billy Wilder kick lately, having watched Stalag 17, Sunset Boulevard, and Some Like It Hot. My region free disc of Sabrina arrived last week as well.

Of course, I'm wanting Criterion to upgrade Ace in the Hole to Blu-ray, because I love that film.

More than anything else, though, I want a Blu-ray upgrade of Double Indemnity. Now.

On the subject of Buster Keaton...

Keaton appears briefly in Sunset Boulevard, so we have now successfully crossed the streams of the two ongoing discussions. Keaton's episode of The Twilight Zone, "Once Upon a Time", has always been a favorite of mine from that show.

Earlier today, I price-checked the Ultimate Buster Keaton Collection on Amazon UK and ImportCDs, so Buster Keaton stuff is now appearing in the ads to the right margin of my Facebook news feed. Zero privacy has its perks sometimes.

Personally, I'd rank it as Coppola's best, and I'd say Hackman's performance is one of the all time great performances - probably the second best of the 70s.
I love those 70s "paranoia" thrillers. Another great one that I wish would come out on blu is The Parallax View. It's a Paramount title so ideally a 40th anniversary edition next year from Criterion would be nice, but I'd settle for a decent Paramount/Warner release.

I'm almost starting to wonder if Double Indemnity and/or Touch of Evil are back in play for the prediction games here.

Universal was making some noises about releasing them here but that just kind of faded away.

Of course, you could just scrounge up a region-free player already. You know you want to

Looks like my local Barnes & Noble will not be stocking Zatoichi The Blind Swordsman set... so I do need to do an order for it at least in store, they also said it is a pre-pay title only for them to order. I doubt all locations will be like this but I would say most will. It must be due to the non sale price of the item. Just a heads up. I would for sure say order it thru a store a pre-pay for it if you have that option becuase I know many complain of out of stock .com orders being canceled.

I already darn near own all of the existing Region A Blu-rays that I've been wanting for my collection, so this is tempting. I think that I'm going to hold out for a good while before going Region Free, though.

There was a good spoof post in this thread during last month's announcements that named a bunch of Billy Wilder titles all in a row. That was one of those "This is funny, but I wish that it were serious." moments.

Yes, I can see how some people can be fans of that kinetic editing style of Roeg's. One thing is certain, there is never a dull moment in a Nicolas Roeg movie. I feel like that director has ADHD. His films are perfect for today's audiences.

So instead of making some blind-buys on Criterion films I plan on buying during the sale, I've decided to borrow them from my local library on DVD to watch beforehand.

Here are the films I'm borrowing:

Eyes Without a Face
The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
Tokyo Drifter

Are any of these titles blind-buy worthy though?

I feel more secure watching these before I buy them.

Have you seen Roeg's Don't Look Now?

"Whoah! Slow down! The nude scene is not over yet! Don't show them getting dressed. We're still not at the end of the nude scene! Slow down!"

I haven't yet and I have heard that is his best film by far.

It's so ironic that you post this only days after I change my avatar/signature

Have you seen Performance? Not only is it a must for all classic rock fans, but it was a huge influence on Toby Scott believe it or not.

They finally arrived.

B&N never did give me a tracking # that works. Even after delivery, it still doesn't even come up in the system.

Walkabout, IMO, is his best film but, yes, Don't Look Now is an excellent film. When I was vacationing in the maze that is Venice I was reminded of this film. Just the paranoia you feel when you get lost or the eerie late nights walking down some of the narrow streets and turning blind corners.

Really enjoyed the London Underground set. Got it for Victim but the other films are really good as well.

I have seen Performance. I remember seeing it in one of my film classes maybe 12 or 13 years ago when I was still in college. I remember Mick Jagger was in that film. I need to see that one again! Wish it was on blu-ray!

Oh, what was your avatar? Wasn't it a picture of Sandra Bullock from Gravity? What does this have to do with Nicolas Roeg?

I love Walkabout... still my favorite Roeg film by far. I hope Don't Look Now gets a blu-ray release someday soon. If not, I'll just borrow it on DVD from the library.

Same Victim is the highlight, but I was surprised at just how much I liked the other films included as well.

I love Billy Wilder. On my director's Mount Rushmore. I need to see a few of his yet, but I will soon. Stalag 17 is next on my list. I should have taken advantage of that sale when you mentioned it the other day. The Apartment is a top 10 movie for me and I definitely intend to upgrade to blu. I got a little impatient with that site the other day and just didn't pull the trigger.
