I'm sure the Ran problem would crop up again, with the Japanese wanting to push out a domestic release and let it sit unchallenged for a while.

IF Criterion sticks to their philosophy at present, I would expect that you would pay the same amount for a Blu-ray trilogy that you would for a DVD trilogy (e.g. a Blu-ray release of The Human Condition would cost $79.95 SRP, $63.96 at the Criterion store, and so on).

I'm in the same boat fdm. Last Year at Marienbad wasn't always $29.99, was it?

I'm waiting for at least $26.99, and preferably, a Gold Box discount.

Also, does anyone have any tips for getting Criterion Blu-rays into your Gold Box?

I just clear everything else out of my wishlist except Criterion Titles (although since Repulsion is the only one currently not ordered, I added a Mets Hoodie for my kid ) and just list them as "Highest" and "High" wants.... and hope they show up

I have been having nothing but Blu-rays show up in my gold-box for the last few days..... so it's just a matter of time!

Feeling generous, anyone?

And yes, I know The Lives of Others is not a Criterion title...

OK, fine (I'm a pushover for a Criterion)!

Looks like my July releases will be coming in August--together.

I haven't seen Ran yet (Sacrilige!), but I can't wait for the eventual Criterion Blu-ray.

Put Marienbad on the wishlist. See what happens. (By the way it was 26.99 last time I'd checked.)

That's my wish list from today above your post. You can see the pre-order jumped to $29.99. I'm going to have a contest with myself as I'm trying to get healthy--if I can avoid all non-diet soda and do something active three times a day, I can get Last Year at Marienbad myself on release. If not, I have to wait for it, either as a birthday gift or when it goes on sale.

Besides, Beta Man just peer-pressured me into pre-ordering For All Mankind with Repulsion. I had already planned on The Seventh Seal from way back when Blu-ray was first introduced, so I pounced on that with extra for one-day shipping, as I'm going on a family vacation on the 28th of June. That right there is three of the forthcoming four announced Blu-rays. I also just dropped $4k of my savings because Pioneer decided they were pulling out of the display business. Now, it might not seem obvious from all the above, but I'm not rich, in fact I'm piling on the college loans at the moment, which means my wallet is currently in the ICU.

In summation, I hate Criterion (and Pioneer).

Yeah, I'm thinking I might have had such an offer at one point for "Marienbad", but at the time I was avoiding far in the future Criterion gold box deals (plastic was still an uncertain future feature of Criterion BD packaging).

Amazon's bubble bag shipping mangles most things cardboard, so I don't usually bother ordering such things from them any more. (And anything that ends up appearing in cardboard will most likely get re-ordered from someone else... their loss.)

Especially against Moyer, who for whatever reason usually does well against the Mets. And Santana the previous day...just wow, even with lack of runs to back him up he is a shoe in for the NL Cy (which he should have won the previous year..the bullpen and lack of run support blew him at least SEVEN games, as I'm sure you know).

Back on topic...uhhh, Kwaiden rules! Also, since you obviously like good films and baseball check out Sugar if you haven't. Great film about dominicans and the inner workings of baseball.

Also, uhhh, criterion rules.

The movie is actually good for a mass released holiday Oscar push film.

I buy all the ones I want, which at this point is 8 total and 2 on pre-order, but as this thread will display, many criterion fans buy each and every release.

Its like baseball cards for some of us...it gets addicting and even the mediocre releases have some sort of merit in the history of film.

I have wages of fear but have yet to open it up since I've been super busy. I'll watch that this week.

Welcome to the fold. Also, check out the related UK company "Eureka-Masters of Cinema series" which has the same concept as Criterion on Amazon.co.uk. They only have one title released on Blu Ray (Mad Detective) and another on the way (Tokyo Sonata) but both are amazing films and region free. The region coding for the regular DVDs they release varies, but a rep from the company said they want ALL of the BDs to remain region free, including special/extras.

Hey thanks for the Tip.. Ill check them out. Im starting to get into older films as I start to get older myself. Most movies that are coming out now are more or less the same.. With few exceptions every year. So getting Caught up on movies i missed is kinda something new and fun.
