A near-perfect announcement for me would be:

Spike Lee's 25th Hour
Le Samourai
The Friends of Eddie Coyle
More Antonioni

Since we're approaching February's announcements, a quick scorecard of some of the more solid possible announcements, outside of Hulu channel possibilities like Foreign Correspondent, etc or longstanding upgrades.

Leftover 2013 New Year's Wacky Drawings:
  • Eraserhead
  • The Kid
  • Le Samouraï (Possibly off the table due to Pathé's poor transfer)
  • Scanners

Active Newsletter Wacky Drawings:
  • The Freshman (Harold Lloyd)
  • Persona

Known To Be In Works:
  • The Apu Trilogy
  • The Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • La grande bellezza
  • Satyricon
  • Tess
  • Yu Tu Mama También (Cuarón was in the swag closet around TIFF, so maybe he finally approved something...)

General Rumors:
  • The Big Chill
  • The Lady From Shanghai
  • Mulholland Drive
  • Tootsie

Retired SKUs / Potential Dual Format Upgrades:
  • The 400 Blows
  • The Adventures of Antione Doinel
  • Breathless
  • Night of The Hunter

If they announce Persona, I will be buying a multi zone player.

25th Hour would be a pleasant surprise for me. It would probably cause a bit of a stir for those who resent anything Spike Lee-related.

The 25th Hour was also rumored by Spike Lee a year ago or so. I'm not quite sure why they would re-release films in Dual Format considering they're both out on DVD and Blu-ray right now. If that's the case, I guess they'll re-release everything.

Last February we got a Dardenne Brothers film, so hopefully we get another one.

I shelled out roughly $250 on non-Criterion Blu-rays this morning with the 10% off sale at ImportCDs and with my Barnes & Noble weekend coupon, since today is payday.
[Show spoiler]City That Never Sleeps
Shack Out on 101
The File on Thelma Jordan
Hoodlum Empire
Cloak and Dagger
Secret Beyond the Door
Hell's Half Acre
Ruthless
Body and Soul
Champion
The Dark Mirror
Suddenly
The Most Dangerous Game/Gow, the Headhunter
They Made Me a Fugitive
Nosferatu
The Best Years of Our Lives
Jane Eyre
(1943)

As such, I'll probably be buying City Lights this weekend, and then buying Tokyo Story next week, but that's going to be the extent of my Criterion haul until December. If I have spare dinero left over on December 1, I might hit the Cassavettes set, but it's not a priority right now.
I'm pretty content right now on the Criterion Collection front.

Looking forward to some sweet announcements, though.

A Brighter Summer Day was confirmed in 2009 by Mulvaney, then in October last year Edward Yang's widow said it was still forthcoming from them. Hopefully 2014 will be the magic year.

For me, I could go with:

- A Dardennes (Le Fils would be great especially)
- Mulholland Drive
- Le Samurai
- Anything Kieslowksi, especially the Dekalog

When you say "retired skus", what exactly do you mean? Out of print?

I'm quite sure NotH and B are not out of print.

For me, it's more Wong Kar-wai, more Hirokazu Kore-eda, more Korean films, more Asian films in general not directed by Akira Kurosawa

and

Mulholland Drive.

They are taking the existing packaging out of circulation in order to repackage them. Or, I should say, they are replacing them once they are sold out. In all likelihood, they will be getting plastic cases. This is why there was the rumor that they were going out of print, and why they are selling for way too much on the secondary market.

Foreign correspondent is a pretty nice little Hitchcock film. Good special effects for that time period. Although there is one study involving a man Falling from a building that is so laughably bad. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Fingers crossed. I am about tired of my really bad quality burnt copy. I'd actually like more of his films in the collection.

If they do announce The Big Chill, I think Tootsie will also be announced.

Tootsie would make Scott a happy, happy boy.

I caught it on TV a couple weeks ago and it instantly became one of my favorites of all time!
